It's only a short walk from the main drag of the city. Well worth a wander up from the Caspian to the Old City.

Best attraction is that is is away from traffic and uncivilized drivers. Interesting mix of authentic old architecture and renovated walls and structures. Good venue for venders with handicrafts. Did not try audio tour. Opportunity for more cafes, restaurants, and art shops. Improvement would be no autos allowed. Interesting to see so many cats everywhere but no dogs. Lots of potential, I wish them luck.

Old City Baku is a beautiful place for old relics. It is a must on any visit to Baku. There, you can see thousand-year-old relics as well as newer sculptures and fountains on the outskirts. There are many vendors (depending on the time) but be sure to negotiate prices (you can knock off 1/2 of their asking and negotiate to about 60 to 75% on anything on the street. Inside stores in old Baku, I didn't buy anything. No visit to Baku is complete without this visit. Also, be sure to go to the park inside the ancient city walls if you are there for romance...it is clearly a place for couples to coo at one another.

It's a UNESCO World Heritage site and for a good reason: the city center is unique and beautiful. All colored in the same tone with the exceptions of trees, it's nicely marked if you're taking a tour and very well preserved. I enjoyed the trip to the Old City immensely and getting lost in its streets was a wonderful experience.

Baku, Old City is a very compact area. It is a tranquil spot in an otherwise bustling city. The Old City provides a limited look at what Baku was like in ancient times. The cobbled, narrow streets are charming and it is easy to imagine living in the area long ago. There are a few carpet dealers along with other curio venders, and all are pleasant and not at all pushy. There are a few hotels in the area which provide a good central point to stay while visiting Baku. Knowing that the Caspian Sea shore reached to the gates of the Old City at one time makes one realize how the geography has changed over the years.
