“Nice hotel for business trip”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

I have stayed in Crown Hotel in a business trip. Nice building, high level of service, clean and well-equipped rooms, tasty breakfast. Swimming pool and sauna were very good. But the 1st and the least problem is location - near the Dalga Plaza - our target partner's office was there - but close to busy and dusty road and 24-hour construction on the Caspian sea embankment. This hotel is very good for business trip but not so good value for leisure.

This is billed as a 5 star hotel. It's more of a 3.5 and occasionally 4 star. The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean, comfortable and well serviced. The food is variable: breakfast is poor and luke warm, however the dinner that was provided as part of a conference was as good as any of the recommended restaurants in Baku. The redeeming feature is a very good pool, sauna and steam room. This hotel is a little way out of town and not in waliking distance. A taxi is about 5 manats ($4 USD) and haggle the price before you get in. Avoid travelling into the centre during rush hour as this part of town is gridlocked for an hour or so at each end of the day.

Room Tip: Get a upper floor room facing the sea. The are much quieter

Was here on 7 and 8 June 2011. The hotel is just beside the main road. Location not so ideal. Traffic is bad after office hours when people are leaving Baku central to go home. Our bus was stuck in front of the hotel due to traffic jam.

Room are normal. Nothing to shout about. Make sure they do not give you the rooms on the same floor with the lobby or at lower ground. It is smelly and noisy. The higher level rooms are with electronic card access.

Free WiFi is available. You have to ask the reception for the password.

Breakfast is average.

The Crown Hotel is in the suburbs of Baku, overlooking the Caspian Sea and the city.
Between the hotel and the Sea, there's a naval base, and if you sleep with the window open, you might get a wakeup call from the sailors singing while doing their morning drills.

The staff speaks only bits and pieces of English. Their Russian is better. On average, the quality of the hotel is so-so. They probably try their best and according to standards in the former Soviet Union, it's good, but it's not up to par with Western standards.

There is a restaurant on the top floor. The first night, there were only a few people there, and they weren't guests but musicians. One of them started singing "Strangers in the night", I think, because it sounded a bit like it. We told him to beat it. The restaurant had not been counting on any guests that night, so we got some soggy kebab with french fries. The rest of our stay, the restaurant offered some nice lunches for the conference we were attending. The breakfast itself, offered downstairs, is a bit so-so.

There's an excellent restaurant in town called "Karavan" where you can get all different kinds of kebab.

Baku being an oil city, the air is fairly polluted. Upon hours of arrival, I had a weird cough that disappeared when I was only one day back home.

We stayed at the Crown Hotel during our business trip in Baku. Hotel was convenient to get to from the airport, but not ideal for trips around the city unless going late at night and avoiding traffic. The rooms are okish.. as I got upgraded to a suite which was good, whilst my colleague was cramped up in a small dark room, with thin walls allowing him to listen to the neighbours loud TV.
Breakfast was nice, albeit the lack of choice. There aren't decent restaurants around the area, therefore one always has to travel.
Overall if you don't get upgraded (or pay for a suite) you get a 3+ or 4- star experience for a not ideal location.

Have been for some days at Crown Hotel Baku. Not a good experience. This is not the place ff you are looking for a friendly and helpful staff. The manager in the front desk just isn't helpful at all... big shame.
Breakfast may let you angry... Little choice at breakfast buffet - very limited selection and may take some minutes to have your coffee.
Found some hair in my towel in one day and almost every day I had to ask for shower gel or shampoo or soap.. sometimes they just didn't leave any in my bathroom...
For leaving at night you may need to spend about USD20 (round trip) on taxi to go to downtown... not that near...
Internet is not high speed... something like 128~256k..
Thin walls.. you can hear easily the tv or guys on next room.

I have been accommodated in Crown Hotel Baku with my colleagues by our company and felt there like at home in one hand and business like in other. The room was great and housekeeping service was professional. The breakfast at some "morning" restaurant was nicely prepared with traditional menu as well. If you need something extra or special, they will bring to you with no problems. They have another restaurant on the top floor with sea & city view and it's very beautiful at nighttime. The food was excellent. The room was with the seaview and with balcony, I liked it. For sure, I will stay there next time.
