This beautiful little museum is a must for all visitors. No one will ever see the types of old manuscripts that have been preserved beautifully in this magnificent building sitting on the hill looking over the city of Yerevan. Guides will share the history of some of these books, including a few that were saved by Genocide survivors.

Lovely old manuscripts, many like the more famous Books of Kells. Incredible workmanship and detail found in a museum that I didn't expect.

Fantastic place! Take a guide when you are there and you will be immersed in history, culture, religion and science... it is a great introduction to Armenian heritage and I am really amazed how much was preserved provided some not easy times of past centuries. Definitely a must visit if one is in Yerevan.

Unless you are a manuscript expert you will benefit tremendously by paying a few extra bucks and getting a second ticket with your admission for a private guided tour. Worth 10 times the price. You buy the tour ticket on the right side under the stairs where a little shop is located. (You might want to buy a camera ticket as well so the rude young lady does not yell at you when she sees you snapping the pictures) . You take the tour ticket to a small desk upstairs where the staff congregates (very old Soviet style system) and they call the foreign language guide that is on duty all day awaiting just the chance to show off her language and knowledge.

Our guide was a young woman with excellent English and huge knowledge of the collection. She only showed us the main room but with all our questions and her in depth knowledge it took us the better part of two hours. We would have gladly stated longer and had to rush through the other rooms just to have glimpse of all the other treasures.
She had no compunction about answering a lot of questions about life, young people and her personal experiences. It is a great way to get a hlpse into the real situation as very few Armenians that a regular tourist would cime across speak much English.
