Some Days of Silence Resort & Spa

After spending a couple of nights in busy Nha Trang centre I found the Ki-Em Arthouse to be absolute paradise. The rooms and gardens are gorgeous, and as there are only nine bungalows we found we had the beach to ourselves most of the time. If you are looking for a bit of peace and quiet this place is ideal; there is nothing to do but lounge about in hammocks, swim or look at the art work so it is perfect for a few days relaxation.

As the previous reviewer has mentioned, the meal times are very regimented - the evening meal is served between 6 and 8 (during this time our room was made up for the evening - tidied, mosquito nets set up, curtains shut etc...) and there is a set menu, however, as my partner and I are vegetarian they were happy to prepare alternatives for us. I thought the meals were nice but it would be better to have a few choices.

The only slight problems I had with the resort were that the beach has quite a lot of litter on it and there were a number of (pet) dogs roaming around the resort all day (probably wouldn't bother most people but I have a bit of a phobia!)

Overall I thought this place was lovely and would recommend it as a place to relax.

Ki-em art house resoirt is situated about 30km north of Nha Trang on a beach called Doc Let,on the Hon Khoi Peninsula, it is very isolated area, with just 2 other non descript resorts close by. The resort has just 9 cottages, beautifully decorated with large comfy four poster beds, walk in open shower and seperate wc, there is A/c and mini bar. On the balcony outside is a hammock and sun bed. The grounds are stunning extremly well kept with artifacts scattered around,a meditation room, gallery, museum,it is owned by a German Vietnamese artist,so you can probably get the picture! Around grounds are plenty of pic nic tables and baskets of shells previous guest have collected from the beach.

The beach is very long and very quiet. In some areas it was very dirty, with lots of excrement and I dont think it was just dogs excrement! There is a small fishing village along the beach and we did see a few people "doing their business"on the beach!!! As with many beaches in vietnam there is a lot rubbish on the beach, 99% coming from the locals, this beach was aprime example

There is a lovely pool and a small spa, a massage costs $10 and was very good and proffesional. There is also free internet but only available between 9.30am and 10.30am and then 2 hours in the pm, I ignored this and went when I wanted to and they didnt seem to mind.

Dining is a rather regimented affair, or should I say they try to make it that way! Breakfast from 7am to 8am, we turned up no earlier than 9am and there was always plenty of people behind us! You can dine communally with other guests on the long iron wood table or on your own at smaller tables.Lunch is served between 12 and 2, there is no choice at meals, just the daily menu on the chalk board. This I am afraid is where it all went down hill!!

The food is poor, one evening we were given cream of vegetable soup, followed by pasta with a few small prawns and some unidentifiable hard rubbery fish, perhaps it was conch? for dessert, sweet yam soup which was a purple starchy gloop! If an establishment is not going to offer a choice, then what they do offer has to be excellent! Why they try to offer European food I dont know, when they have a wonderful larder on there front door step ( ie the sea!) There is a limited wine list ( 4 red, 4 white) no spirits available unless you like Ricard!! So an after dinner brandy is out of the question!!!

The staff were excellent, we could not have faulted them

This place is very "Robinso Crusoe" which is great but it is badly let down by its food!

If you are looking for a VERY QUIET hotel with no bar and no cocktail list and dont really care what you eat, this is the place.

If you prefer good food and would like an appertif in the evening forget it!!!
