We stayed here for 5 nights over the Christmas break. Nicholas was really helpful in all the planning activities - we had to change nights after we made our original booking and he accomodated it with no problems. When we arrived at the airport, a car was waiting and took us promptly to the hotel.

We checked in easily and after dropping our stuff off in the room, went to the roof terrace to check out the view (and the excellent bar). Solid spot, with a great selection of music and free internet/webcam to contact home. We then met Nicholas who told us that we were in fact put in a smaller room than he had planned for us, and therefore would switch us tomorrow to a bigger one. In the meantime, he offered us one of the biggest rooms - with balcony - for the mix up. Was much appreciated.

Overall, the rooms are a fine size, have all the needed (airco, flatscreen TV etc.) and in fact are exceptional value for money. The included a-la-carte breakfast is great - a selection of either fruits, pancakes, eggs, french toast... I suggest trying each of them once. They don't go cheap on sizes, we always started our days with a pleasantly full stomach!

Location-wise, the hotel is in the centre of the backpacker drag - and there is more than enough within a 'stones-throw' from the hotel. If you are going to eat outside the hotel - 'Something Fishy' serves up some great fish dishes, grilled on the BBQ while you watch. Finally, for all your transport needs, Nicholas even helped us to arrange motor-scooters as and when we needed them.

Over-all, this is a great place to stay. The staff is really lovely, fun to hang out with (the roof terrace is a big draw), and you can easily pass an entire night with them (not to mention their ability to make a stand out white russian).

What a memorable Christmas we had...

My friend and I loved Ha Van, and no other hotel we've stayed at has matched up to it.

A standout was its fantastic staff. Everyone there was so friendly, from the owners/managers Nicolas and Mike, to the receptionists, to Benny from the rooftop lounge. They were always smiling and up for a chat, gave great advice on nha trang, and showed us a good time. It was my friend's birthday one night, and the staff decided to organise a birthday party for us, and drove us around to get cake and champagne. They're constantly willing to go the extra mile, something that is rare and in between here in Vietnam.

The rooftop lounge was the place we went to whenever we wanted to chill, and a stop we made every night before going out. At first we didn't believe it, but they actually do play any song upon request! They also have great specials, like free drinks on people's first night and daiquiries for ladies nights, as well as great discounts on cocktails. It was a hub of activity, and the laid back vibe allowed us to meet dozens of travellers who we enjoyed tours and nights out with. Food here is great also, and i miss Ha Van's American Breakfast at other places we stay at.

There rooms are at a standard which you don't see for other hotels of this price. Beds are soft, pillows are better than the ones back home, and they have really nice sheets. Conscientious staff cleaned our room everyday, we never had a problem! There is wifi in each room, which can be accessed with no problem (this is on top of the 3 computers and skype station at the rooftop lounge). Extremely clean bathroom, fluffy towels, TV, mini fridge were all of a high standard.

Front desk can organise tours and motorbike rentals are reasonable prices, and can be trusted. Highly recommend this place for anyone going to nha trang. You'll love it.

We have had a nice stay at this hotel, but I had initially expected more, based on the reviews we'd read. The location is fantastic, the rooms are nice and very clean. (We booked a double room with balcony and were fortunate to be on the top floor.) At $26/night the price was also quite good. However, these were some of our issue with the place: 1. My husband bought two beers for the price of one, as the happy hour advertised, but was then charged the price of 1.5 of that same beer. And the price of a single beer, by the way, was more expensive than we could purchase a street or two away. 2. For the first two nights, using the main power switch in the room, which was necessary to turn on any of the lighta and the A/C, also ensured that a small green light remained on all night while we slept. By the third night, this problem seemed to take care of itself. 3. On the third night, we had to call the reception to ask that the pounding music from the rooftop bar be turned down so we could sleep. 4. The reception area was full of old furniture and looked a mess. Perhaps new furniture had just been purchased, but it would have been better to hide the furniture in an unused room.

All that said however, we didn't have a bad stay, and I would recommend it to others. Perhaps we just had a bad run of luck...

We decided to stay in this hotel after reading some recommendations on TripAdvisor.

We were really pleased with our stay. The staff were lovely, from the receptionist who greeted us with a beaming smile, to the bar manager Benny, who was a live wire and made time to have a chat with everyone who came into the lovely rooftop bar. The rooftop bar is a great place to start your night as it has different specials every day, one night we were there they had two for one specials, and the next night free strawberry daquiries for women. The restaurant is also located on the roof, and this is where you have your breakfast, which is included in the room price, and is good quality and value, with a number of choices.

The rooms were lovely, and had extras that you don't normally get at this price. Our spotless bathroom had a great "rain" shower which was steaming hot and had excellent pressure. The room had a fresh paint job and some nice decorative touches like framed paintings and good quality curtains. The room was made up daily and even the cleaning staff would greet you with a "Good morning" and a big smile when you passed in the hall.

The beds were spot on, not too hard or soft, with fresh western style pillows (not the hard "sack of rice" pillows you sometimes get in Vietnam), lovely thick doona (duvet) and crisp white quality bed linen. The best bed we had in 3 months of travelling.

There was a good selection of cable TV channels (HBO, StarWorld, StarMovies etc) and the wifi was the best connection we have had in 3 months of travelling. When we couldn't connect immediately, we phoned reception and a western man (who I believe is either the owner or the manager) arrived in our room within minutes and sorted the problem straight away. We had no more problems with wifi the entire time, it was strong and reliable.

All this for US$22 per night - what a bargain!

Stayed at the hotel for two nights and was very pleased overall--they let me check in early, room had a nice view and good WiFi connection, and the bed was very comfortable. Not too much noise from the hallway or the lobby. Nha Trang wasn't my favorite place in Vietnam, but I really enjoyed getting to know the hotel owners and staff. Don't miss their fantastic rooftop bar/restaurant, with great views of Nha Trang and excellent service. Big bonus points for letting me use a room to shower and change in the evening after I'd already checked out! Other travelers told me about their hotels with oceanfront rooms and balconies for a bit more money, but I was extremely happy with Ha Van, and would enthusiastically stay there again.

Ha Van is centrally located on a small side street, an easy walk to Louisiane Brewhouse.

We must have had the same room as a previous reviewer--ours had a broken sink pipe too. I'm really surprised, given that review was posted a while ago and the pipe seems easy enough to fix. The room itself seems newly renovated, but shortcuts are obviously made. Other fixtures were broken as well, or thoughtlessly installed like the shower rack that is located next to the toilet instead of inside the huge shower. Basically the room is comfortable but not cozy, not somewhere I'd want to stay more than the 3-4 nights we did.

It's otherwise a good hotel. Rooms are equipped with good quality flat panel tvs. Hot water is blazing and the water pressure is excellent. Room is a decent size, and we got a balcony room. The view is just street and some mountains, no sea. Double room/balcony rate was a moderate $25, talked down from $28 because we stayed more than 3 nights. The price just within reason, but I would not call it a killer bargain. I think you can find many similar hotels in Nha Trang in this price range.

The rooftop terrace has the good view and that's where you eat breakfast or have some beers in the evening. Breakfast is a sit-down affair with solid banana crepes and eggs, although the coffee could use some work. Unfortunately I didn't find either the lobby or the rooftop terrace to be conducive to meeting other travelers. The hotel sort of has a stick-to-yourself vibe.

The hotel feels perfectly safe. However, the balcony rooms pose a bit of a security risk because the balcony is technically connected with the one next door. Also, one day there was a guy hanging off a rope doing work on the building. Unfortunately there is no safe in the room. The dresser has a lock but no key, I would suggest that management offer one if possible.

Oh, one major plus was that each floor has its own WiFi modem so connectivity is not a problem. We had some issues but the staff was ready and willing to help.

Nothing really bad to say about the hotel in general, the staff and Quebecois owner are nice people. We felt safe and comfortable. Just one of those "nothing to complain about, nothing to rave about" reviews.

I looked up this hotel on trip advisor, then contacted the hotel via email. We love Nha Trang this is our second visit. We travelled with our two kids aged 1 and 4 and wanted to stay somewhere decent, clean, good location and easy access to shops and restaurants.

Met Nicholas, he was very helpful and always have time for a chat. On the last night my husband was sick and I had to grab some dinner for the kids and I, I went downstairs to ask for the closest place to get congee, the reception man was kind enough to make a phone call and delivered it to the hotel for me.!

They were doing some renovations to the windows in the hotel but it didn't disturb us at all. Only thing is there was no bath tub for the kids, they had to stand and they had a portable shower handle, this didn't bother my boys at all.
The beds and pillows were very comfortable, room was air conditioned and had great running hot water.

Will definitely recommend this hotel to anyone, for 22USD per night, you couldn't ask for anything better!
