“How soon can we return...”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

We absolutely loved the resort, very "barefoot luxury" it is beautifully designed to look very "rustic". It was about an hour after we arrived before I got the huge grin off my face. From the moment we were greeted at the airport the service was excellent, staff were very friendly and helpful and couldnt do enough for us but without being in any way intrusive (so, perfect really).

When we were coming into the bay on the speed boat I was wondering of we should have gone for a water villa as they looked fantastic but our beach villa with its wonderful garden tuned out far better suited to us, being very private and perfect for nature lovers. Our thatched roof villa had a bedroom with bed and daybed, and large partly open air bathroom downstairs and a lounge with a daybed and sitting/ dining area, coffee machine and pantry upstairs. A couple of times I shared the shower (outdoor, and with the choice or monsoon or standard shower heads) with two frogs so i took to having a bath instead, no hardship as it was a gorgeous big wooden tub that took surprisingly little time to fill due to excellent water pressure (and it was long enough I could lie flat full length on the bottom!). We had a number of lizards / geckos visited during our stay as well as being able to watch the very cute squirrels and chipmunks playing in the trees from our sun loungers on our veranda. The personal plunge pool was lovely there was some shade over one area or another of it all day so it was perfect for cooling off in even if you didn't want to get too much sun.

There was a complimentary bottle of fizz and a bowl of tropical fruits in our room on our arrival and some local sesame toffee nibbles too that were very good.

There is a reef in the bay so there is interesting snorkelling and an activities centre where you can loan snorkelling equipment if you don't have your own. The activities centre also do a host of other things and there is an on site dive centre too. Alternatively you can do as we did and laze around in the privacy of your villa with occasional trips out to the beach to snorkel.

The dining and food options are good, as well as the main restaurants there is room service and the option to have a meal on the beach. We had a wonderful afternoon tea on our veranda with a selection of tea, coffee, juice and canned drinks, lots of prepared fruits and a lovely selection of very very good cake ! We also really enjoyed the "Vietnamese street food buffet" one evening and had some of the nicest food of our entire stay in Vietnam.

We thought the resort had been very well designed for the first 48 hours or so we thought it must be almost empty as we hardly saw another person when in fact it was very full but the villas are so private and the eating areas spacious so as not to feel crowded.

We have stayed in some very nice hotels previously, and especially on this trip, but I would have to say this is one of my favourites and both of us agree we (unusually) can't think of a fault with it, it truly was excellent and I would be delighted to return.

The location is fantastic, but just a long way away. The beach, sea, and background are all stunning. The big letdown for us was the limited training of the staff and a general lack of English knowledge. For a resort of this price bracket, these points were simpy unacceptable. There are many resorts in the US$ 700+ range which are pretty much perfect.

Dear 27MM

Thank you for your kind review and constructive comments...

I'm sorry to learn of your frustration due to limited communication during your stay, especially after your departure...

Rest assured that English comprehension and skills training remain our utmost priority, especially now with so many hotels/ resorts opening in Nha Trang and its suburbs creating a volatile labour market. To overcome any shortfalls we are working hard to retain our hosts through motivation and reward, additionally we have a dedicated team of English teachers within our training department..

Once again our sincere apologies for any inconveniences, and thank you for raising this concern,

With sincere regards

Gary

With 2 young children, we like to go to resort every summer. Do nothing, but enjoy relaxing time together. We have been to a few resorts in Thailand and also Malaysia, and this time we challenged ourselves to Vietnam. A place that not so popular for family trip still. I read about Six Senses Ninh Van Bay in my last trip to Evason Hua Hin. It's heaven on earth from the introduction and photo there.
Upon arrival on the airport, the staffs from six senses were already standby in the luggage conveyor belt. Taking care of everything. The transfer from airport by van and speed boat was comfortable. We stayed in Beach Front Villa, the room is spacious and cozy, eco friendly and comfortable. Our butler Len is just excellent, she is proactive and everything we need is just a phone call away. A good butler really makes a big different in our trip.
The restaurants are nice, a bit expensive and limited choices for kids though. Great experience with snorkelling, cooking class and fishing. The six senses spa was fabulous, highly recommend the signature treatment Sensory Spa Journey. Simply do nothing but spending an evening drinking by the bay is indulging. Highly recommend for honeymoon or family!

WOW!! This place is a MUST, a very special place of peace, beauty and tranquility. Coming from QLD we have some of the best beaches and coastline in the world at our fingertips, but this place is equally as good as some of our most exclusive coastal resorts. We stayed in a beach Villa - No 2 and it was absolutely magnificant, not a nail to be seen, very rustic yet luxurious, the bathroom was the coolest bathroom in the world as described by our 10 year old son. The snorkling was fantastic, the reef is extremely healthy with lots of different types of fish. The fact that there are no cars only pushbikes to get around was great, especially for kids, our 10 year old would jump on his bike and of he would go and we would have no worries about his safety.
We will be back, I would go to Vietnam just to stay here :)

Room Tip: If u have kids the Beach Villas allow lots of freedom, they can play on the beach and u can watch th...

We are checking out of the Six Senses resort at Ninh Van Bay today, after a fantastic week. We were dubious about booking the resort, as on the website I thought the rooms looked a bit like sheds and not really to my taste. But after reading the reviews on trip advisor, we went ahead and booked and weren't disappointed. I gather from some of the other reviews others weren't as taken by the rustic / eco charm of the place, but we were smitten, the whole resort has a magical 'robinson crusoe' feel.

We stayed in Hill Villa 15, which was perfect for us - being not overlooked and incredibly private. I gather the beach and rocks Villas are similar prices, but I would recommend the hill villas as they are much more private. Ours was made up of three interconnected bungalows - a living area, a bed and bathroom, and a spa treatment bungalow.

We were a bit concerned when we booked about the concept of having a butler - I had visions of having a creepy man lurking around wanting to be told what to do all the time. Butlers are actually shared and are more like a personal concierge, to pick you up from your villa, help with booking activities and so on. Our butler, Dee, has done a stellar job of looking after us this week and is a lovely chap.

There is plenty to do at the resort, we did a cooking class which was great fun (although is outside in the heat of the day - wear cool clothing!), plenty of snorkelling on the gorgeous house reef, a diving trip (great value as there were just the two of us with our own dive master and speedboat for the day) and a romantic sunset cruise which was good fun, with plenty of champagne laid on.

We found the food at the resort was of a good quality, although as other reviews have commented, priced in line with other five star luxury resorts rather than the rest of Vietnam. We brought along a few bottles of our own wine and beers from outside, as we had anticipated this would be the case, so had drinks around our villa in the evening to save paying high prices all the time. I'd recommend other travellers do the same, and there is also a generous happy hour at the bar from 4 - 7 each evening when drinks are half price. Room service was also good quality and has an extensive menu - more varied in fact I think than the main menu, so it's one to consider.

Interesting that we travelled from the UK, and the forecasts were of rain over Vietnam the whole time - actually the weather has been beautiful all the time we have been here. Apparently this is usually the case this time of year, so I wouldn't be put off going to Vietnam in the European summer, when the rest of Asia is rainy.

We'll definitely return to other six senses resorts, although they are pretty expensive. We use a good travel agent who helped us get a good price for our week here, as with any high end resort I get the impression there are deals available if you can be flexible.

Room Tip: Hill Villa 15 for privacy. Hill Villas 2 - 6 have lovely views although are not as private. Beach...

Our stay here was absolutely fantastic. This resort truly epitomises robinson crusoe luxury! The setting is absolutely unique, on a private bay that is so peaceful you can forget any stresses and be pampered to pieces! The views out to sea are incredible and the whole atmosphere is so laid back and relaxing, at the same time as offering excellent service. We really liked the people a lot and found all the staff to be very helpful and friendly. Six Senses just always get it right from our experience and I can't recommend a stay here highly enough if you want to totally chill out in a natural yet pampering environment.

Room Tip: The hill top villas are stunning but for the ultimate and if you like to be by the water I would go...

We're currently staying in one of the water villas, and enjoying every minute of it. The villa has access to the water for snorkeling which is very nice thanks to the perfect water temperature, abundant of live coral and fish. The villa itself is spacious with separate living room, private pool and a large deck for sunbathing. The bathroom is huge with wooden bath. I particularly like the outdoor shower which is hidden away besides the rocks and bushes. The service is quite good, everything runs smoothly. However, the butler service is a bit over-rated. We are not fussy so we have not made use of this service at all. Finally, the environment here is simply wonderful. We've spotted wild animals such as possums, birds, lizards and we think we heard the monkeys make lound noise in the early morning.
