This was a rainy day activity with our three children. The previous day we had been at Vinpearl, which has an impressive aquarium and underwater "walkway" where you can view the fish up close. The National Oceanographic Museum is also dedicated to marine life, but is quite understated and a little run down. On the day we visited there was only one other group of people wandering around. However, the fish tanks provide visitors with a chance to look (and sometimes touch) various marine life which our children enjoyed. The preserved fish, sea snakes etc were suitably creepy, and reminiscent of a previous era. If you have young children, and have some spare time, it is worth a visit.

It was only 30 dong to get in. The turtle enclosure could have done with being a bit cleaner, but we enjoyed looking round at the different fish tanks, the 2 seals could have done with a bigger area.

Scruffy in parts but cool inside.

Saw the two biggest rats I have ever seen (not exhibits) and we have seen a few in Nha Trang.

Such an unusual place - entry is very cheap, compared to places in Australia which charge about 40-50$ entry. It is however very small. That being said, there's some interesting large outdoor exhibits with small sharks and some interesting fish, then a fairly substantial collection of tropical fish and marine species in tanks around the rest of the complex. The downside is there is no guide, so it's a little easy to get lost wandering around or not know exactly where to go (particularly since the paths trail off in various directions).

However, the most unusual thing about this museum is not the living fish, but the preserved ones - there is a room with huge floor to ceiling rows of glass jars with preserved marine species - fascinating. There is even a full preserved dugong. At such a cheap price this is an amazing place to visit and great value for money, for both family and solo travelers alike. It's really what you make of it however, some may only spend less than an hour while others could probably spend a couple just observing the exhibits.
