My husband and I stayed in a hilltop villa (number 29) for five nights (18/10 to 23/10) and had a fantastic holiday. Our butler Mai was great and was always at hand when we needed anything. If we were to go back we would definately ask for either number 28 or 29 hilltop villas as we really like the ocean view and central location and this is even over a beach or lagoon villa.

A must do is the chef's market tour and cooking class if you can get up at 5.30am while you are on holiday. Matthew the Executive Chef took us to 2 markets in Nha Trang, had a cyclo ride and we ate breakfast with the locals in several street side stalls. Upon returning to the resort we had a 1 1/2 cooking class followed by lunch in the chef's garden.

Food prepared by Matthew and his staff was nothing but amazing, prices very reasonable for a resort of this quality and service you could not fault.

The service and relaxed atmosphere in this resort is what makes it so enjoyable and when you leave you just want to go back straight away or at very least explore one of the other properties TJ and Epikurean look after.

Only a couple of minor negatives, there is very little drawer space if you are there for an extended stay and the Spa service needs improving as it does meet the standard of the rest of the resort.

Villa 29 is one of our special villas that is up on the hill rock but also afford you a view of the sea from a “bird’s eye” view. The design was to give guests a sense of seclusion but also with a view.

The market tour and cooking class is one of our most popular activities that the resort has to offer. It really immerses the guests into the local way of life as well as awakens your senses (word of advise, wear something that you don’t mind getting dirty in and if you’re squeamish, sorry…). Chef Matt has just joined us to replace Chef Briony. Matt has been in Vietnam for several years and has brought with him valuable experience and enthusiasm in showcasing the local cuisine as well as the “Aussie” touch.

We have just revamped our Spa experience as well as having a yoga teacher on hand to enhance our guests’ Spa experience. Our Yoga Instructor and Spa Supervisor Shiju has arrived allowing us to provide a better experience and more choice of treatments to our guests

We have several projects on board in Thailand and Sri Lanka and will definitely keep you apprise about them. We look forward to see you back at any of our Epikurean properties. Thanks again for being our guests

I wanted a quiet relaxing break in beautiful surroundings and that is what we got. The Villa was beautiful, rustic charm build to blend in with the environment with a nice pool to cool down in, yet still with all the modern essentials. The private butler service, many thanks to Hai, was excellent and so much better than looking for a concierge desk with different staff with limited serviced hours. The food was great, including a fantastic in villa BBQ, for which we had gone to pick the lobster fresh from the sea farm near the resort. The iced Vietnamese coffee at breakfast is very addicting and visually very appealing.

“An Lam” in Vietnamese translates to “tranquil forest”, and we are glad that you have appreciated the natural surroundings of the resort. Not only is An Lam Villas a beach resort but also is surrounded by trees, rocks, streams, and the best of what Mother Nature has to offer. We are lucky to have such a natural environment as our backdrop that also enhances our guests’ experiences, and which we designed and built the resort to blend harmoniously with the ambience. Furthermore, the service and cuisine must also reflect the Vietnamese charm with that special warmth. We constantly strive to improve and have just changed the picnics and bbqs and will do more improvements on the details . Hai would like to send her appreciation for your comments and we all lok forward to your return

Thank you once again for sharing your experience with us.

From the moment you leave the reception (via speed boat) to the moment you leave the resort (via speed boat) the service was exceptionial.
We were met on arrival by TJ (MD), Ursula (Duty Manager), and Hai our butler for our stay. The lagoon villa we were allocated exceeded our expectations in every way. Very romantic.
Everyone was so friendly and keen to do anything possible to make your stay extra special, which it certainly was.
Would definitely recommend An Lam Ninh Van Bay Villas to anyone, we will certainly be returning and I look forward to sharing another bottle of bubbles with ursula, your shout!
Special thanks to Hai, Ursula, Matthew and Phuong, who made our stay a wonderful experience.
Sorry no down side apart from the time it took us to get there from the UK!

It’s truly satisfying to hear that you have enjoyed your experience with us. Creating a first through last impression is a very important goal of ours. That is why all guests are welcomed personally by senior members of our team and also see our guests off when they leave. Ursula, Hai, and the team send their regards and thanks for the special mention.

The bubbly is on ice and chilling and is waiting for you when you return…

Great place for couples. Secluded beautiful and spacious private villas by a nice beach. I say nice since the water is quite silty & muddy so not great for swimming and snorkelling. The stand-out feature is the great service - they really aim to please

PROS

1. The service is what makes this property exceptional. You have your own private butler and they are extremely attentive. We had some issues with our snorkelling tour and Keith and TJ handled our issues extremely well.

2. The villas are all very beautiful and well designed. We had a nice pool villa overlooking the lagoon. Even though it was the wet season and we couldn't do too many activities the villa was so comfortable that we didn't feel too bad that we were trapped by the monsoon rains.

3. There are nice hikes and free bikes so you can do a little bit of exploration around the island. If the island gets a little too small, they have free boat transfers to Nha Trang. The only problem is that there are boats that can bring you back in the evening as the boat returns back to the resort at 3pm. That's a shame since you can't really have an evening in Nha Trang.

CONS

This place is great so there are no real downsides but I do have the following suggestions

4. They could spend more time investing in training for the spa therapists. The massages in other resorts in Nha Trang (eg Evasonb Ana Mandara) are much better. I think they just need to spend more time in training and investing in improving the massage services

5. If you are here for a short weekend trip, its great. However, I was talking to other guests who had stayed a week and they were getting bored. More free activities would be great (eg free yoga sessions or hikes around the island) would be great. The activities which you pay for are excellent especially the private snorkelling trip.

Thank you for your honest and sincere evaluation. Relating to the spa, we have recognized this issue and have taken actions to remedy this situation. Shiju our professional yoga instructor have joined us . He is also a licensed therapist who will be on-hand at the resort to do treatments, as well as, further train our local therapists to reach the highest technique level. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I’m glad that all other facilities and our services have met your expectations.

Hope to see you again in the near future.

After reading all the reviews on An Lam, we had decided to book 12 nights long holiday in this resort. An Lam was in a secluded beautiful setting and food was excellent. To make your trip more enjoyable, minimizing the chance of accidents, share the pros and cons in this review before you go…

Some thoughts to share:
1. On the second day of our trip, we went for spa treatment in the newly established Spa. The pathway was beautifully built in irregular stepping stones surrounded by dense green leaves. By about 7th step, there was a large flower hanging over half the pathway. I tried to bypass it and stepped onto the grass. Without any warning signage nor verbal advice from staff, the leaves turned out to be a pond of 1.5 feet depth! I dropped into the water on my back, almost hitting my head against the rock, and got big bruises on thigh and arm. My husband tried to grab me but he slipped into the stagnant water with his knee hit on the edge of stepping stone. He had two severe cuts on knee, 6cm long and deep till bone. All staffs were in panic and my husband had to manage the bleeding wounds himself for 2 hours inside Spa room before doctor arrived from Nha Trang city. I fainted for ~20 seconds over the scenario and my husband had to ignore his wounds and saved me from hitting my head against the wall and falling onto the ground. 5 stitches were sutured. As assessed by doctor there was no serious bone injury and no signs of infection after 2 days, we decided to leave after stitches were off when the knee became more stable. So, the romantic, sight-seeing, snorkeling relaxing trip which we had planned for a year turned into a rehabilitation trip with crutches as friends.
Though it was unpleasant to start a vacation this way, the owner TJ and his staff were indeed nice people and had been very helpful and offered us great assistance to render the rest of our stay more comfortable. After all, this was a design fault and the management had positively promised to consider redesigning the walkway. Meanwhile, they had put a sign indicating the green pathway was in fact water to alert users. But before the new design completes, risk still exists as the pathway stepping stones are often slippery especially when rainy season is coming and the lack of daylight after 5:00pm in An Lam. Keep yourself sober when walking to spa and pay special attention if your foot size is 9 or above.
2. The main pool, beautiful in design, but visibility was low. You might easily hurt your arms or head when reaching the edge of pool while swimming.
3. The brick layers in pillars of beach villa were peeling off. Young children could mistaken they were chocolate slices and swallowed.
4. Wooden rim of private pool was chipping off. Pay attention when entering the pool and getting out of water.
5. Bicycles were provided to each villa. Good idea on one hand but as the general pathway was sandy and occasionally rocky, there was risk of trip over on the other especially when the last time you ride on bicycle was dated back to your teenage.
6. There was a narrow wooden cylindrical walkway branch pull over water to the “Mangrove Fishing Point”. Very interesting as a scene, but try not to walk on it unless you have good balance power. There was risk of falling into the pond 5 feet below.
7. A three feet snake was accidentally wandering the outdoor bath tub and spa bed area of the villa. Though said to be harmless, scary enough. Thanks to the brave staff who caught the snake with wood branches from tree.
8. The daily switching of electrical generators usually meant a transient cut off of power supply. The longest power suspension was almost 2 hours, but the management would let you know in that case. Showering at night in case during transient power off would mean no hot water as well.

Nice Treats:
There were things I never experienced before in other resorts…
1. There was no room key to the villa, and no locks on all sliding doors, as security staff was vigilant and police were also stationed along rim of resort.
2. Beach front villa got its own private beach area for enjoyment, wood deck was very spacious, in-villa pool size was reasonable for leisure swimming, view was very nice, and you could hear the gentle breeze and splashes of sea waves all day long and even at sleep. The garden area with Spa bed, outdoor shower and bath tub was open but yet privacy was preserved.
3. As long stay guests, they used my name and craved it on the local grown piece of wood to be used as villa’s name. Thoughtful indeed and so happy when I saw it while checking in.
4. Wow factors:
-varieties of fresh fruit juices were splendid, including pomelo, passionfruit, An Lam multivitamin, etc.
- the home-made jam including watermelon, mango, papaya was inventive
- wide varieties of home-made ice-cream and sorbet with special taste
- bread basket included pastry, croissant, etc. is carefully made and tasted good
- daily Vietnamese breakfast specialties was interesting
- Vietnam spring rolls with daily smoothies in different taste was nice for afternoon tea
5. Main course food was excellent!
- Chief chef Briony from Australia did fantastic job, one of the best cuisine among all the asian resorts we had been visited for the past 17 years
- Lobster and steaks were deliciously cooked, so did the seafood or meat BBQ. Best lamb rack we had ever experienced at resort. Tenderloin was really tender, and rib eye steak was nice. Charges were reasonable for the quality and quantity.
- Mud crab in ginger, shallot, and local sauce was wonderful! Must try.
- Fresh oysters were delicious charging at low price! Must try.
6. All staffs were very friendly. Spa therapists could visit your villa for personal treatment, and the therapist manager did excellent massage. Chef would stop by villa, asked our preferences for dinner, and gave nice suggestions. Butler would deliver drinks to villa around 4:00pm daily. And the pool staff would clean every single leaf or debris from water everyday.
7. Special gratitude to duty manager, Elena, who was sensitive, attentive and thoughtful, and had offered us great assistance throughout our stay. Also thanks to Keith and TJ, top management people, who had offered kind treats, generous assistance and solid reassurance on all our needs.

Coming back? Yes, if all the potentially dangerous spots are rectified, aesthetically appealing design should be weighted against safety grounds. A bit more attention to details would further enhance the comfort of stay. Staff with first aid experiences is somehow essential in a remote resort, where medical assistance is not readily available at proximity.

Thought we'd died and gone to heaven! We only had two nights here and could have stayed a month. From the moment we stepped off the speedboat after an adventurous 15 minute ride from the mainland, we were greeted warmly by staff and particularly our butler Tran. What a gem! Our first thought was "what do Australians do with a butler?" however we soon appreciated her thoughtfulness and meticulous care and concern for us. ie. providing a plate of freshly picked aloe vera to put on our sunburn after we'd been on a snorkling tour. The concept of individual butlers instead of reception is excellent. The staff make each guest feel special and TJ the Manager ensures that everyone is comfortable and well looked after. We had a hilltop villa and loved the privacy and views, although there is a lot of up and down stairs as the villa is on several levels. Loved the private plunge pool. Saw a couple of lagoon villas and as they are all on one level, that would be a good option in future. Our Beach BBQ was excellent, more food than we could possibly manage but a wonderful evening. The beds are wonderfully comfortable and covered with mosquito nets. (We even saw a firefly attach itself to the nets). Breakfast every day was superb, freshly juiced apples and wonderful pastries and breads.

Stayed for 7 nights in a Lagoon Villa end of August
- Positives
Lovely romantic setting
Perfect infinity pool
Good selection of food and activities
Absolutely fantastic villas and kit
Staff truly exceptional - thanks Phong!
Good to also meet TJ the managing partner, obviously knows his stuff and i think he is driving the success of An Lam Ninh Van Bay. Thanks for the HK recommendations too.
Gets 5* for all the added and unrequested extras which i will keep a surprise

-Negatives
If you go for a swim be aware the bay is not crystal clear and muddy if you go further out
If you try to swim to the sunbathing platform in the bay you can easily tear yourself up on the shallow coral - probably needs to be marked
TV film on demand system was a little garbled every 5 -10 mins

Much obliged for taking your time out in providing us with your feedbacks. Unfortunately, our beach is naturally that way and has corals and an underlying mineral deposits that makes the beach water look murky at the shallow end, however, if you go out further, it is nicer and should be fine. It is very satisfying to see that you noticed our extra touches throughout the resort. It is our philosophy that small things are those that truly set us apart from our competitors. I hope you found my HK recommendations useful and had a good time.

In regarding our TV on demand problem, we do truly apologize for this. Being out in a remote peninsula, we basically had to set up our TV and wireless system by way of beaming satellite waves from mainland. Because of this, sometimes due to bad weather (i.e. rain or strong wind) will cause disruption of the signal. We have adjusted and fixed certain glitches and hopefully will have no further problems.

Once again, thank you for choosing An Lam Villas as your retreat destination.
