My hotel recommended this US$15/person day tour. 20 person maximum on the boat, we had 12. Well organized and operated. We had 3, 45 mins dives in 3 separate locations. Hotel pick up and lunch included. The guides were friendly and talkative, excellent value for money.

Corals & fishes were abundant, would love to go again.

Coming to Vietnam for a month, I decided I wanted to do a fair bit of scuba diving as I heard there were loads of nice dive spots. After browsing a few dive shops I came across oceans 5. I had read an article about the manager 'Tom' in a NHa trang tourist book and he seemed pretty legit. I did an open water dive course and thoroughly enjoyed it. The whole team were professional, their dive gear was the best I have ever used and the whole experience was generally just a really enjoyable and interesting one. Would definitely recommend, affordable and extremely thorough.

The entry to Nha Trang harbor is somewhat like sailing along Miami Beach a ways, with hi rise buildings mixed with moderately high apartments. And there was a long beach front in the downtown area. But, as we proceeded, we saw first one small Eiffel tower, then a second, then several more. At the area where we docked, there was an ariel tramway that passed over about 7 such towers. The cars had stopped and, as the captain announced on departure, the tramway cables that went over the ship had been made taut so the ship could pass under it without problems. When we left, the tram started up again. But, this time it was late evening and the towers were outlined in white neon lights designed to look like a small Eiffel tower from whichever way you viewed it.

First off - let's just say there is a difference between the "boat tours" (party tours) and "snorkeling tours". We booked the Amazing Snorkeling Tour through our hotel ($15 each) and were told max 20-25 people (party tours can have 40 people crammed onto a boat). There were 22 people on board our boat. The boat was relatively clean and well kept. Enough life jackets for all. We were provided with beach towels, water, fins, masks and snorkels. All the equipment was adequate.

We boated to Hon Mun island first, which is a marine reserve. There were quite a few boats at this first stop, including some intro-dive tours. We had about an hour here. The coral wasn't in great shape but better than what we have seen in Mexico. Fair number of little fishies and large number of sea urchins. There were tiny little jellyfish here and some people did feel like they got some tiny stings from them - but nothing serious.

Sad thing - dive "instructors" from those other boats taking their "clients" down and having them touch (yes, touch!!) the coral so they could take a picture of the client. Very, very sad - touching the coral is one of the reasons the coral is in such bad shape. Our snorkelers seemed to be quite good about that. But... would have been good for our guide to mention - "don't touch the coral"! or at least have some multi-lingual signs onboard.

Second spot - another part of Hon Mun - we were the only boat there. Spent an hour here in the water. Great spot - some crevices and cave-like areas where we saw a barracuda, maybe a reef shark and a tonne of fishies. Coral was in better shape. Little jellyfish here as well. After getting out of the water, we had lunch - very tasty and quite a variety. Beer and Coke for sale if you wanted it ($1 each).

Third stop was Hon Mot Island - a couple of other boats around. Coral not in great shape but fair amount of fishies. No little jellyfish here. Then back to the dock with fresh fruit (pineapple, watermelon and bananas) served on the way.

Top deck was WAY too hot to spend any time. People did jump off the top deck into the water when we were tied up at the snorkel sites. Two bathrooms on board

The islands are all granite and most of the coral is growing on huge granite boulders that have fallen into the sea. Not a classic reef in that sense. All in all, an enjoyable trip (minus the uneducated dive instructors from other boats and tour companies). Our guide was quite funny and entertaining.
