“Great private beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2012

Beautiful room and very good breakfast. Swimming pool was very large. Private beach very clean and easy accessible.
Although from the city a bit far away, no problem, because they have a bus shuttle for free every hour or so. Very friendly staff.

We spent most of our days sitting around the big swimming pool. Big, clean, and a nice view of the south china sea and well as a beautiful mountain backdrop. Weather has been so hot here so it is a nice place to cool off.

Rooms were huge. Big walk in bathtub, but it took a long time to fill up.

We stayed here to be close to the golf course. They only had 10 holes open but the course is beautiful.

A bit too many Russians for our liking (about 90%), but the hotel service and rooms were great. Would come again for sure.

I spend five nights at the Diamond Bay Resort in April. Firstly the hotel is 12 KMs outside of the town so a taxi ride is essential or a hotel shuttle is available for at rather limiting times. The rooms are simply weird. We had a beach front room which had a bathroom that was the same size as the actual bedroom. There is a huge plunge pool in the bathroom which takes nearly an hour to fill and then means that the other four rooms alongside have no hot water. The level of English speaking is lower than one would expect. We asked for a non smoking room which clearly had previous guests smoking here. The hotel seems to have targeted Russians as their customers. On the five days were were there we only heard English spoken about ten times. The biggest let down was the food - in Vietnam you would expect to have a strong local menu and breakfasts - sadly there was neither. Clearly the hotel is focussing on packages which means everything is buffet. The food quality and cooking was some of the worst I have experienced in a hotel. On the positive side, the swimming pools is huge although it needs to be cleaned more than it is presently.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2012

We thoroughly enjoyed our four night stay in the Diamond Bay Resort in April 2012. We chose an ocean view bungalow for two adults and two children. This was probably not the best choice becaues there was only room for one extra bed. We were caught out by the apparently large floor area shown on the website - in fact, almost half of the room area is bathroom! Luckily the double bed was huge (it looked like a super king size) so we managed to fit one child in with us.

The room was clean, pleasant and quiet. Minor niggles were that the shower had two faults - a broken selector knob with stripped thread and a leak owing to a missing washer, but these were rectified within half an hour of our arrival, which impressed me (though I have doubts about the longevity of the repair).

Service was generally excellent. The front office manager and pool area manager were particularly helpful and attentive. Also, the manager in charge of the evening buffet was very kind in helping to organise some Vietnamese food for us (see below).

I thought that the price of food and drinks was reasonable and the quality of food generally good. Breakfast was particularly good, with a wide choice of foreign and Vietnamese dishes. The hotel needs to do more however to keep the sparrows away from the bread and pastries. I gave them a wide berth.

Evening meal choices were more limited. Most guests (predominantly Russian) seemed to be staying full board and therefore opted for the buffet. This costs US$20 for guests who are not full board. We tried the buffet one evening and enjoyed it. A glass or beer or wine (Vietnamese Dalat wine) was included in the price.

Apart from the buffet, the only other options were to eat by the pool (Sea Wood restaurant or the Banana Leaf Bar) or in a rather uninspiring little restaurant/nightclub called the C House. All had limited menus with only a few Vietnamese dishes. Most items on the menu were international - hamburgers, steaks, BBQ and so on. This was disappointing, but we were able to make a special arrangement with the buffet manager to allow us to choose dishes from the menu of another restaurant which was not open in the evenings. I suggested to the hotel that it should expand the a la carte evening menus to include more variety, in particular more Vietnamese dishes.

We liked the pool area and the beach (a short shuttle bus ride away). There is also a beach closer to the main resort which has kayaks and pedalos, which our children enjoyed. The hotel provides a shuttle bus into Nha Trang and we were able to get a taxi back to the resort for VND 150,000 (US$7.25) by bargaining hard. Nha Trang town itself has little of interest but I recommend the snorkelling boat trips. These boat trips are much cheaper if booked through agents in Nha Trang than at the resort (agents were handing out leaflets at Cam Ranh airport). I do not know how the quality compares, however.

The main negative comment was that the hotel seemed to be full of Russian package tourists. While I have nothing against Russians, it did have rather an overpowering effect, which some might find off-putting, and not many of them seemed to speak English, so there were no opportunities for us to make acquaintances. Also, there was a lot of smoking going on around the pool and at breakfast. Others have commented that some of the Russian tourists behaved badly, such as pushing for the shuttle bus. We did not experience this, although we did not stay during the high season, when it might be different.

Okay there are some things in this hotel that aren't right but there is a lot that is. This hotel is no different in terms of overall qualty than similar starred resort hotels in Spain or Greece. In fact the standard of service of the staff is better.

Rooms we had a Superior Double and it was huge and always clean perfect for our stay.

Swimming Pool - Large with lots of sunbeds but sometimes they are full. Pool staff remove towels regularly from unoccupied benches,

Beaches - Both clean and reasonably spacious. The one in the grounds offers free canoes and pedlos.

Spa - Excellent value for money although a little rushed once finished.

Restaurant - Breakfast was really good with excellent variety in a very large open plan area. Evening meal buffet was good although the Russians seem to like to take all the Prawns!! so get in quick if you want some.

Staff - Oh what loveley people, nearly all the staff here were really friendly and helpful if you make the effort. We spoke with the General Manager on several occasions and he is very friendly and also visble. You will see him on most days as he eats in the restaurant where you are and is also seen in the bar, so he really keeps an eye on things which is good. Special mention should also go to Han in the restaurant who really made us welcome and attended our every need and also Tu the poolside and beach attendant who really was keen to talk with us.

The Band - We spent most nights listening to the Phillipino band who provided an excellent variety of quality music

Bus into town - There needs to be a queuing system sorted out for this. Lots of pushing a shoving by heavy weight people. Really not necessary as more than one bus at a time anyway

Please feel to contact us if you require any information Rob & julie

The Diamond Bay Resort and Spa is a very nice place to stay if you want to lounge around the magnificant pool and have a few drinks. If however, you are the type of traveller that wants to be activie all day this may not be the place for you. There is a Golf Course / Driving range there. We went to the driving range and had a bit of fun, but then went to play golf, unless you have a handicap they are very rude and wont allow you to play. The food at the resort is nice but the buffet dinner is average. We went into Nha Trang itself for dinner after our 1st night and found great resturants (Sailing Club and Louisiane Brewery) but dont get the meal for two as it is very small. We spent 5 nights at Nah Trang but should have only spent 3, unless your a SCUBA Diver then there may be more to do.

Room Tip: Try and get a upgrade to a Garden view Bunglow as the bathrooms in the room are Huge and I mean huge...

I agree with many reviews that DIamond Bay is trying to live off early coupe of hosting Miss Universe in 2008! Individual pictures of contestants could do with coming down now!

Our room was spaceous and very clean. The "bath spa" looked very inviting but there was insufficient warm water to even fill it half full. Very disappointing.

Internet connection was sporadic but mostly inaccessible.

I am not a lover of "school dinner" way of serving food. The breakfast was ok but nothing special, as was buffet dinner. Give the glass of wine included in meal a miss its absolutely awful!

All staff were very friendly, courtious and did their best to communicate in pigeon english. This is not a criticism, i'm in Vietnam after all and in somes ways having to work round being understood adds to the authenticity of being in a foreign country......i couldnt even say 'hello' in vietnamese before arriving!

The beach on resort is nice but image spoilt by white "diamond bay resort" writing on side wall.......very tacky!!! Great swimming pool on resort really big.

Dont bother with shuttle round to additional private beach. The surrounding grounds are very run down not at all appealing and beach is nothing special.......though the Russians seem to like it.

The resort is someway out of town centre. Getting on the shuttle bus is ridiculous. The resort attracts alot of arrogant, rude and bad mannered russians - we seem to be only english here at present. The fight to rush on bus is like children going home on school bus! Actually not a nice experience.

Nha trang centre is like vietnam meets blackpool! A visit is enough!

Finally -just as an aside- if you are travelling to VIetnam dont forget to bring your sun cream its like gold dust here and you will be doing well if you find any at less that 50 spf.

Actually one last comment......dont pay more than 8 dollars for return taxi trip from town centre to resort though u may have to haggle to get it!
