I started on this journey not for tourism but for research about traditional Vietnamese architecture. The Imperial Tombs were easy enough for me to self-navigate through, the Imperial City, however, after going around on the tour realised it would have been impossible for me to do so by myself.
My tour guide's name was Hoa, and he was excellent by all means. He was very attentive to everything that concerned us (me and my mother) such as finding ways to be out of the sun as much as possible, taking me on an extra length of the tour to further my research, and most importantly, explaining in detail to me about the history and the architectural design notes of the buildings. These were the kind of information that I doubt I would have known or even take note of if I did not have a guide.
It was not perfect, he did not know everything but that was to be expected as the site was huge with many meticulous details and information that I asked about, of which, very few people seemed to know any answer to. However, Hoa gave me his contacts so that we could keep in touch and he was very willing to help me with any further questions I may have concerning my design research.
Overall it was a great tour - I highly recommend it.More
