The Camellia Hotel in Hue was a very nice hotel with a very friendly staff. Breakfast was well laid out and the dining room staff also performed well and were up to the standards needed to receive a 4 star rating. One thing I would like to say about the breakfast in all hotels I visited except the Sammy Hotel in Dalat, Vietnam, would the restaurant managers please get a 3 or four burner range top to make Omelets, one must stand in line forever it seems because the hotels cater to tours. That is the only complaint that I had at most hotel restaurants. When one is on a schedule with a tour this is a killer. The front desk personnel were friendly, gee, it seemed that all front desk staff personnel all over Vietnam were friendly and capable.

The location is not bad for the person who wants to get out and walk around. The tour to the ancient city, the Citadel Grounds in Hue is a must. This as you well know is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and well deserves the honor. Although the site is relatively small to the Forbidden City in Bejing it is well worth the visit, but hey, this is Vietnam not China. Another adventure one should take is a river cruise if you have the chance. We enjoyed the river curise and it is really a must.

Once you have enjoyed the day, it is great to get back to the Camellia for a relaxing evening in the comfort of your superb room. I would like to have my own personal mattress like the one on the beds at the Camellia Hotel. Go figure, freight would kill me. So if you are planning a trip to Hue, stop in for a few nights at the Camellia, well worth the price. The wife and I would return for sure.

This was the only hotel I reserved in Vietnam that was not 1 or 2 on Tripadvisor, and I was sorry. When we arrived, the front desk staff was indifferent and detached. Perhaps after staying in the other lovely boutique hotel in Hanoi, I expected more. We were the only guests who arrived at that time and there were several people working, so there shouldn't have been any issues. Unlike other hotels, they had to keep our passports for a long time. When I returned to the desk to pick them up, they seemed irritated. Since three of us were traveling together, our room was on the second floor directly across from the pool area. Upon entering, the room smelled very musty, so we asked to be moved. We were told that our only choice was the room next door, which was also musty. My suggestion is that they take out the moss that is placed between the brick and the tropical oasis decor as they are dust catchers and actually make the room look very tired. Sheets on one of the beds were dirty. The shower curtain had mold growing on it. That's an easy change. We are not very particular travelers, frequently staying in national park accommodations or local hotels in remote areas, but all of these things combined made for a very unpleasant stay. The included breakfast was adequate, but the wedding-like decor made it seem cold and uninviting. The staff serving breakfast was pleasant and friendly. The hotel claims to have a bar/restaurant, but when we went there in the evening, we were told it was closed. To be fair, there were several tour groups staying at the Camellia, so I talked to them at breakfast and they seemed to like their rooms. Perhaps it was the second floor rooms that were musty, but I won't be going back a second time to see.

We were collected from the airport by a very helpful taxi driver, which the hotel had organised for us, and taken to the Camellia

Staff were very helpful and efficient and the hotel was beautifully clean although the reception area was very spartan. The dining room on the top floor looked out over the city and river. Breakfast was extremely good with a good choice.

Our room was well equipped with a comfy matress, pillows and nice linen.

We left early in the morning, after a good breakfast, for a flight to Hanoi and again the hotel organised our transport.

We would recommend this hotel if staying Hue as it was well located. We hired bikes from a nearby shop and cycled to the city. The hotel does have bikes but they are $4 a day as opposed to $1 elsewhere.

Room Tip: We did a day trip to the Royal tombs through a travel agent just a few doors from the hotel. It was a good day and worth doing. Restaurants - we ate at Confetti on each of the two nights we spent in Hue. The food and service are very good and affordable.

We stayed a total of 9 nights at this hotel, which with hindsight was too long to spend in Hue, which whilst it is a lovely city, it only merits a four or five day stay unless you are chilling out.
The hotel was of a good standard with polite and friendly staff, and the speed of making rooms up in the morning is incredible, with 3 or 4 maids blitzing the room whilst we were at breakfast on all but 1 day of our stay which was a real pleasure as it meant we did not have to rush to allow the maid in as is the case with most hotels.
The main disappointment for us was the swimming pool, which on the photos looked really inviting, but in reality was a pokey plunge pool, underused and as a result not well maintained, it looked as though it got very little sunshine, and there was only a single lounger when we visited, and lots of gym equipment stacked up for what appeared to be storage, so if you are looking at this hotel for lounging by the pool think long and hard.
Apart form this I could find little to fault the hotel, there was some upgrading being carried out on the 10th floor, which caused some noise, but as the noise did not start until 0745 and finished early in the evening, did not bother us too much, and work has to be done at some stage to maintain a good standard.in a hotel.
The massage according to my wife was excellent, but be prepared to be asked for a tip.
All in all a good hotel, and with a better pool I would have given it a 5 rating

Great location down a side street not far from the Pefurm River. Very quiet at night despite having a front room. Staff are very friendly. Beds comfy, linens are a bit stiff but everything is clean. TV has usual English channels, room has fridge, safe, and kettle. WIFI and a/c work well. There wasn’t hot water in the evening so we called the desk and it was soon very hot. Plenty of hot water in the morning and lots of hooks in bathroom and storage in room. Tub is a bit strange but it’s clean. Sink holds water. We’ll be staying here again.
