Excellent beautiful hotel with helpful staff. Tremendous location. Only improvement necessary would be the breakfast buffet and general quality of the food which is only fair. But it is probably best hotel in Hue and a wonderful hotel with great charm and very good service.

Driving into the hotel driveway is very impressive, especially with all of the Christmas lights on. The hotel lobby is large with a bar/lounge area immediately in front of the lobby. Upon arrival you are given a nice cup of (something sweet!!) tea, which was warming on a dull and grey day in Hue.
Our room was reasonably compact with a shared bathroom and toilet area, we had a small balcony which looked out onto the central driveway (and the Christmas lights).
We had the hardest bed that I have ever had to sleep in, in a hotel. After our first night we mentioned it to the staff and they put a duvet underneath our sheet to make the bed softer, this did help but unfortunately for us it didn't make enough difference that we would go back to the hotel.
The restaurant was very good, with options of snacks or buffet. Breakfast buffet was good with lots of options, Asian, French, Western.
Staff were friendly and polite and were happy to go that extra mile when you asked them for assistance in any area. It was a pity that the weather was so dull in Hue because I think this could be a good destination but based on the weather I wouldn't come back to Hue (after the 3.5hour journey from Danang by car)

Dear Fieldadvisor,

The whole team here at La Residence Hotel and SPA would like to thank you for choosing to stay with us during your recent trip to Hue and for taking the time to post your valuable feedback on Trip Advisor. We prize the information gathered through this medium as it helps us to improve on our services for the better experiences of our present and future guests.

The main entrance of the hotel is something we are very proud of and our guests often comment how they step back in time to a bygone era which continues when they enter into our lobby bar. The signature welcome drink you enjoyed is comprised of local honey, ginger and lemongrass and is a favourite of our returning guests.

I can understand how you feel about the mattresses in our hotel. Vietnam is notorious for its style of harder rather than softer bedding but after hearing more of this in recent months on trip advisor we have taken action and ordered new mattress toppers which will dramatically increase the comfort for our guests.

Rest assured that all your comments will be shared with the whole team at the hotel and I'm confident that they will be most appreciative of your kind words pertaining to their “friendly, polite and willingness to go the extra mile” in terms of service for our guests.

Lastly, I would like to clarify the weather for you in the region of Hue throughout the year. October through December is the raining season and many days can be overcast. January and February is usually cold (for Vietnam) but tends to be clear and sunny. March through September are the summer months and are warm to hot with hardly any rain. I hope that one day in the near future we will have the chance to welcome you back under clear blue sunny skies where you can really experience the beauty of our historic city of Hue.

Kind regards,
Sergio Arias

This hotel really honors the tradition and architecture of its Art Deco past. The new building blends very well with its origins and one can see all the care and detail than went into this project, from its tiles to the signage.
Yes I agree with some of the comments that the rooms are not as "confortable or bathrooms as ample" as maybe other new hotels arounf the world, but again, I think this is part of the charm. Personally I enjoyed this and didn't find any real issues. Its kind of like buying and rebuilding and old car, it might not have the ride of a new one, but then again, you are looking for personality and this hotel to me has plenty.
The service was very good as well as the food.

Room Tip: Really nice pool and a decent gym overlooking the property

Dear Pablo M,
Thanks a lot for staying with us and also for taking time to post this comment. Here at La Residence we took the restoration process very seriously, keeping as much as possible the original “art deco past”, yet “blending very well” with the new added wings.
We are glad to see that you have enjoyed every detail of our hotel, including service and food qualities. As you have clearly stated, we have chosen to “honour the tradition” and we offer a unique experience to our guests.
Once again, many thanks for everything and we hope to welcome you back here in the near future.

This hotel presents a fine example of art-deco, moderne streamlined architecture. The setting is very nice, affording views of the Perfume River, in central Hue. The interiors are somewhat hit-or-miss, attempting an art-deco style that is not 100% successful and certainly below the level of the building's architecture. Service is very good, food quality at the main restaurant is good as one would expect, although not spectacular (in fact, this is true of most of Vietnam, the food is OK but probably not as great as you had expected it to be based on your experience with Vietnam cuisine abroad, which tends to be of better quality). The Colonial Suite is probably the nicest suite in the hotel. Avoid the Resident Suite (Presidential Suite); its decor is dated and although very spacious, the room is rather noisy as it features single glazed windows. Standard luxury rooms are actually quite nice. Hue itself has a nice market, citadel and celestial pagoda. The town is not pedestrian-friendly, however. Avoid traveling here in the rainy season because most activities are outdoors and if it turns rainy or cold, you will have very limited activities to entertain yourself with.

Room Tip: The hotel has the central, original wing, and two more recent additions. If you are more inclined t...

Dear ClubWorldTraveller
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the comments you have recently posted on Trip Advisor; as a team we are carefully monitoring this channel as it provides us with a real opportunity to reflect and enhance our product and services.
We particularly appreciate your positive comments regarding the “stunning architecture with very nice setting”, “good service” and it is clear that you really liked the Colonial Suite as was rated the “ nicest suite in the hotel”.
La Residence Hotel & Spa is an elegant art deco hotel, formerly the French governor’s residence in the 1920’s and has been painstakingly restored and refashioned into an exceptional design hotel. The Residence Suite is located in the historical colonial building; “very spacious”, with great attention to detail on art deco and from this unique room it is possible the view of Perfume river & Hue city on both back & front sides. Therefore sometimes the sound from the street can say “good morning” to you and our Hotel Management is working on the best solution for this.
With regarding the restaurant feedback, we are delighted to see that you were satisfied with the service & we regret that the food quality was not up to your expectation. Normally, we are praised for our food quality but we also know that even trying our best, sometimes we might not be able to please. Thanks for letting us know.
Once again, many thanks for choosing to stay at our property and we hope to have a chance to welcome you back in a beautiful sunny day; for sure you will have a great time doing outside activities around Hue city.

This is a lovely hotel, facing the river. However, it is a bit far to walk to the centre. You would need to take a cab which if you are going in the winter months, can be a turn off. We ended up eating all of our meals in the hotel including breakfast because it was so cold to venture out unless we were going on tours, so ended up spending quite a bit. I don't think the breakfast is anything special but the restaurant serves really good food and set up nicely. The spa has great treatments, but I disliked the fact that they charge you to use the spa facilities (never seen this before!).

Room Tip: Rooms facing the river!

Dear London 4,
First of all, thank you very much for staying with us and also for giving us your feedback, we very much appreciate. As you have already mentioned, La Residence Hotel & Spa is located at the bank of the beautiful Perfume River, 15 to 20 minutes walk to the city “centre”; our front desk team is always ready to assist calling a cab if needed.
The restaurant team is happy to hear that we “serve really good food” and “set up nicely”. It has also been noted your compliments to the spa treatments; by the way, we have been recently chosen as one of the best spas in the region, thank you for reinforcing that. I also would like to explain the charges to use spa facilities. We strive to offer the best possible spa experience to our guests, and the spa facilities (sauna, Jacuzzi and steam room) are free of charge for guests doing a spa treatment. The main idea is to keep a cozy ambiance at all times without the feeling of rush or being too busy. However, I would like to apologize if this has caused any inconvenience to you.
Once again, thanks for everything and we hope to see you in the near future.
Kind regards,
Sergio Arias

As an art deco remnant of the French colonoial period - the govenor's residence, this hotel has style and a perfect location backing onto the river. Unfortunately the weather in Hue (December) was dire but the hotel was not. Spacious rooms with sitting area, fully appointed and comfortable. Backed up by great service from the friendly staff. We were there for there "lighting ceremony" for swithcing on their Christmas lights and were treated to cocktails and carols sung by local children - a great show.
The spa is highly recommended by my wife having been pampered by a wonderful massage there - yes spa prices are high relative to elsewhere in Vietnam but the quality is there.
