“Six is Too Much!”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

The series of royal tombs is very interesting, but unless you have a particular interest in the history or the architecture, there is no need to see them all. I saw only three– Tu Duc, Minh Mang, and Khai Dinh– which was plenty, and even one too many. I have listed them in chronological order, with Tu Duc being the oldest. If I were to choose two out of three, I would go with Tu Duc and Khai Dinh as those that stood out the most in visual interest.

“1 day tours to cover all the tombs, citadel, river cruise.”
Reviewed December 25, 2012 via mobile

Paid $13 thru our hotel for 1 day city tour to cover 3 tombs, citadel, thien mu pagoda, w buffet lunch included and finish w a cruise down perfume river. Entrance fees not included. Do note that tour ends after the cruise and we see other people struggling for directions to get back to their hotel after getting off the cruise.

First, if u are going to Hue, the above are the typical tourists attractions, and signing a 1 day city tour is a good way to cover all of them at a low cost. Tombs are far apart and difficult to go on ur own. Day tour guides provide brief info on the kings and would be sufficient for most people.

1 day tours are very fast paced w brief explanation by guide then photo opportunities before being hurried back onto the bus. Really touch and go.

Overall, Quite costly compared to other attractions we visited in Vietnam. The guide collected money from us for tickets as follows:

3 tombs: 80,000 dong each.
Citadel: 80,000 dong.
Martial arts show: 50,000 dong.
Total: 370,000 dong per person.

Suspect the rates are high to pay for the reconstruction or refurbishment works at the tombs. Hopefully there is no 'mark-up' by our guide.

“Very interesting but only need to do a couple of the tombs”
Reviewed December 16, 2012

The tombs were interesting but to see all 6 may be a bit boring. The 2 tombs we saw which I believe are the most popular were interesting and had beautiful grounds. We went by taxi but good on a bike. Not far from the city centre.

“Very nice of tombs in Hue”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

Make a half day in the south of Hue city by motorbike to discover the differences of these tombs. Minh Mang and Tu Duc as nature to the quiet time while Khai Dinh is as Western style. Many things to see

“Much better than the Citadel!!”
Reviewed December 7, 2012

They are all located outside the downtown, but much much better than the Citadel, which is a bit boring. The tombs are accessible by taxi, bike taxi, or boat (you need to use bike taxi from the wharf though).

Major ones are Ming Mang (2nd emperor), Tu Duc (4th), and Khai Dinh (12th). The first two are quite large while the last one is much smaller but more intensive. The last one is the favorite of many foreign tourists probably because of it's colorful decoration. The first two are more like parks with traditional buildings. I like Tu Duc the most.
