“Nice ride to the pagoda”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

The best way to see the river for a brief outing is to take one to the Thien Mu Pagoda. Be prepared for the inevitable souvenir offer, but the operators aren't push. If you're in the city, it would be best to walk the river or, even better, rent a bicycle!

“You'd be better off to do the walk than the boat ride”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2013

We took an hour long boat ride up the river (turn-around point just upstream of the railway bridge). Cost was $8 for two of us. We know we paid too much. We were the only passengers on the boat. The inside can be stifling even with the windows open and the plastic chairs are not all that comfortable. We ended up sitting outside near the bow which was marginally better. Both banks of the river are lined with trees and parks so you don't really see that much, not even of the citadel. We had already walked and biked on either side of the river so didn't see anything new here. We enjoyed the walk and the biking much more (and cheaper too!). Coming back from the pagoda might be a better boat ride. Beer was 20,000 VND (not included in the price). Boat operator tried to sell us souvenirs but didn't press too hard after we said no.

“Great place for a walk”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2013

The Perfume river bisects the city of Hue and is a centerpiece of the city. It is a great place to take a walk and a magnet for tourists and tour boats and an economic lifeline for river traffic. It is worth an evening on a tour boat or just a walk across the bridge.

“paid too much”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2013

I liked the dragon boot, but I realized when already paid, that for this kind of trip I paid more than a night in the hotel. My fault, but next customer should be aware of.

“Very ordinary”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2013

We set our for a pleasant 2 hour trip up the Perfume River on a Dragon Boat. It cost $15 for the four of us. The boat is tarted up with some very poor paintings. It has a rough wooden floor and plastic stacking chairs. Soon after we set off our 'guide' started trying to sell us stuff and was very persistent bringing out more and more stuff. Kinda spoils the whole experience. Wasn't that interesting anyway.
