“Spend a Relaxing Day on the River”
Reviewed February 21, 2013

This is a great way to spend a day in Hue. Have your hotel charter a boat for you. Go early and plan to spend most of the day. Be sure to specify which sites you want to visit. Your hotel should ask you whether or not you want food on your trip and whether or not you want to buy trinkets on board. Be sure to specify this with your hotel and reconfirm with your captain.
Be sure to bring appropriate clothing for the temples and tombs: long pants for men, skirts or pants to cover the knees for women, no sleeveless shirts.

“Sailing or shopping?”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

We had a short trip on this river as a means to get to the Thien Mu Pagoda. It was somewhat marred by a woman (maybe the wife of the driver?) producing a range of cheap souvenirs which she pestered us to buy. Potentially a pleasant trip spoiled by this distraction.

“Wonderful Perfume River Experience”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

I and my family recently visited Vietnam with Minmax Travel. They offer day tours to a bunch of places like Perfume River. Perfume River is an actual river that moves through the city of Hue, located in central Vietnam province- Thu?a Thien-Hue. We visited in January, but really should have gone in autumn when the flowers from orchards upriver fall into the water. These flowers give the river a perfumed aroma, hence the name.

Despite it being the wrong year for the full effect, it is a beautiful place to see. The river, with its bridge and surrounding tropical landscape is definitely one to take home as a photograph souvenir. The river has a great deal of culture along it too. We really went to visit it just to see the river based on the history it has and the pop culture. It was filmed in 1987 for Full Metal Jacket. It is fun for the kids to see something that is in a movie they have seen, as well as learning more about the culture of the area. The Perfume River is very important as a water way in the province, which adds to our cultural vacation.

“Private Dragon Boat Ride”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

If you are going to cruise the Perfume River, treat yourself to a private boat ride. We arranged our through the hotel: we were whisked to the boat launch by scooter, and greeted by our first mate. We were dropped off by each tomb, fed lunch, and had a wonderful time. It is a full day, so allow for the time.

“Gives Hue its Character”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

A nice fairly large river that was of strategic importance in the Vietnam War as Hue was a major supply area for US troops. It flows right outside the Citadel and therefore does not warrant a separate trip. Boat rides are being offered but we did not think it necessary to take one as our hotel was right by the river.
