Owner description: The final resting-place of this Nguyen Dynasty emperor and scholar was built before his death. A lake, pavilion and theatre still exist on the grounds.

There is a nice lake with a small island. The whole are is generally very impressive. Although, unfortunately, the tomb also has the most tourist crowds.

Although the most touristed Tu Duc was also the best. The tomb complex was the largest and overall the nicest to see. A tour guide is a great idea as it gives you a lot of little things you just wouldn't know otherwise, but I don't know if we could trust all the dates we were being told :P

Our visit to the tombs, especially that of Tu Duc, was a highlight of our stay so far. The sense of serenity and calm in every aspect from waterways, bridges to pavilions and magnificent sculpture...breathtaking. Now I wasn't quite sure why a Buddhist king believed he'd be king in the afterlife and needed the excess, very not Buddhist to me. In any case, best not to ask,so many questions and take in the refreshing sense of balance.
I agree with previous posts that two tomb visits are enough...then you can compare this relatively natural one to the others which are all inlaid and colorful and over the top.

Unless you are either deeply knowledgeable about, or deeply interested in, the royal tombs in the surroundings of Hue, it is easy to have had too much of them very quickly, so choose carefully how many and which ones you want to see.

That said, I would definitely include the Tomb of Tu Duc in the short list of two or three to go see. It is (I think) the oldest of these tombs, and as such, historically significant. But it is also both the loveliest and most interesting of the tombs that I visited. The setting is beautiful, and the various structures designed for living well, in addition to ostentation after death. This is a lovely site.

The grounds were more natural than the other tombs in Hue, however unless the history of the tombs take your interest I would not visit.
