We traveled by scooter to the Pagoda...a fun, light trip. Parking was easy, but walking through the myriad of vendors was a bit unpleasant...I can only say no so many times ;) The Pagoda and its grounds are beautiful and quiet. I was most impressed to see the car of self-immolated Thich Quang Duc, the Buddhist monk who burned himself to death in Saigon on 11June1963 to protest alleged persecution of Buddhists by the South Vietnamese government. We then visited his self-immolation site in Saigon, a most reflective spot, which helped me understand the significance of his car and his actions.
