“Another must see site”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

Hard to avoid if you do the citadel as its all rolled into one. A very good site with another sad past but well worth the journey and again you do need a guide for the information. Usual 80k entry but that's to the whole citadel area.

“Forbidden Purple City”
Reviewed March 6, 2013

We were driven here by a Cyclo which in itself was great fun - something you should do once whilst in Vietnam. The forbidden purple city is a wonderful place to visit. It was interesting to see the layout of the buildings and learn about how it was was used by the royal family. It is absolutely vast and very easy to find lovely secluded spots and just take some time out. The colours and architecture are visually stunning

“A sad result of conflict”
Reviewed March 6, 2013

If you have witnessed the forbidden city in Bejing you will begin to realise how sad the destruction of the Purple city has been. Considerable efforts are being made to rebuild and refurbish but there is much to do at considerable expense. The visit should be made if only to witness how so much history can be destroyed in a such a short space of time. We can only wish that the Vietnamese are successful in trying to restore as much of the city as possible to its former glory.

“Citadel?”
Reviewed March 5, 2013

As far as I could see, this was part of the Citadel. Or maybe the Citadel is the front part of the forbidden city. Our guide didn't differentiate.

“It's not as it was”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

Again I must say that the result of the destruction by bombs during the war made me sad. Historical buildings cannot be rebuilt to original state and costs are prohibitive. We wlk through the ruins and wonder...
