“What a great hotel!”
Reviewed July 2, 2014

We loved our 6 night stay at this hotel. The hotel is lovely, the staff are all fantastic and the food is great. We had most of our meals in the restaurant as the food is delicious and inexpensive. I can't speak highly enough of this hotel and would recommend it to anyone visiting Hue. We spent time interacting with staff and they are all a delight without exception. However, a special thank you to Emily & Julia in reception and Lucy, Ivy, Sabrina & Sami in the restaurant.

Lovely new hotel down a quiet alley a short walk from the central area of Hue, and about 25 mins walk to the Imperial Citadel. We had a huge room on the fifth floor with a balcony overlooking the city - only downside was no chairs on the balcony but easily fixed by bringing some out from inside. Room is well appointed, even with a computer and internet, and the bathroom is very luxurious.

Breakfast was good - the usual Vietnamese mix of fresh fruit and bread, plus whatever you want cooked to order. We also ate there one evening based on Trip Advisor reviews and although the food was great, the atmosphere was lacking (we prefer to sit outside in any event, which wasn't an option).

Staff were friendly and helpful, especially in the restaurant, and we were allowed straight into our room on arrival on the overnight train from Hanoi - following welcome drinks and fruit of course!

Bed was huge but a tad hard - but then that seems to be the norm in Vietnam.

Room Tip: High floor front rooms have north-west facing balconies overlooking the city.

Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of main streets, the Serene Palace hotel is still centrally located. Overall this hotel met our family needs well. Clean and mostly comfortable, even though the extra fold out bed was a tad hard and breakfast was not quite to the standard of other hotels.

We reserved this hotel based on what we could read and see in tripadvisor and other travel websites. The ratings, reviews and pictures were good. The only apprehension was the location in a narrow alley off a main thoroughfare in a busy downtown area. As the taxi driver approached the alley he hesitated going in because of the narrowness and obstructions by motorbikes parking. Warning bells were ringing in my head, I had to walk in, asking for directions. Luckily the taxi managed to get through and we arrived at the front of the hotel, which stands out from the neighborhood. It has a nice clean front with attendants helping us off the taxi and carried our luggage to the air-conditioned reception area where we were seated and offered cold juice drinks and fresh cold towels to cool off.I mentally checked 1 plus for the hotel. After registration we were helped to the room with luggage, I mentally checked another plus, all the modern amenities were available including the excellent Wi-Fi reception, the bed was comfortable enough for two, the room and bath area sparkling clean, the air-conditioning was quick and highly responsive. The hotel has an integrated restaurant which took care of the free buffet breakfast, providing an excellent array of coffee, tea, juices, Western and Vietnamese style breakfast. One of my American colleague managed to have Pho for breakfast every morning for 3 mornings in a row. Could Pho be really that good in a hotel restaurant? I chose to stick to the royal three courses of coffee/juice at will followed by eggs/sausage/bread and cocktail of fresh fruits to cap off the morning meals. We discovered that the restaurant served very reasonable lunch and dinner for a very good price. So on a day when we were tired of being in town the hotel restaurant was our quiet retreat for a simple meals. The restaurant was the third plus. The fourth plus came from the staff, always smiling, helpful, catering to all of our needs including scheduling taxis and tours. So if you don't have lots of money for four or five stars hotels in Hue, the Serene Palace tucked in a narrow alley is a place to consider.

My husband and I were going to stay in Hue for 1 or 2 nights but ended up staying for 4 nights mainly because we were feeling so comfortable during our stay at Serene Palace Hotel.

Our stay began with a receptionist helping us get out of a very exhausting arguement with the taxi driver.( the driver was trying to charge us 40,000 VND even though the metre showed 25,000VND). We paid what we were supposed without much trouble thanks to the receptionist. And there were freshly ground mango juice and freshly cut fruits waiting for us at the lobby.

The surprise continued with free upgrade for the first two nights, and the wonderful breakfast with so much fruit selection, and the motorbike tour they arranged for us that turned out to be wonderful. All the staff we saw was professional, and seem genuinely nice. Especially, we were very impressed with the restaurant staff named Sabrine(or Sabrina,I believe) was exceptional and it was lovely to see her beautiful smile some mornings and some evenings!

We would definitely stay there again!

Great hotel in convenient location for restaurants and waterfront. Staff very helpful and rooms very large. Only downsides were the noise from the building work (which is hopefully temporary) and compared to our previous hotel in Hanoi the breakfasts were not so good.

At first we arrived and they gave us a welcome fruitplate with fresh melonjuice. Then they gave us an upgrade for free. It was the most beautiful room we had in 4 weeks. When we arrived at breakfast the next morning the breakfast was great. We especially loved the staff: An, Thuyn, Than, Tuy (nicknames; Sabrina, Ivy, Macy, Lucy). They really made our stay unforgetteble! We even become Facebookfriends : )
