“Excellent Experience”

I was traveling solo around Vietnam and stayed three nights at the Morin. It is a very nice place with excellent staff, and my room was flawless. There were performances of traditional music each night I was there. It's certainly more than you need to spend in Vietnam if you're traveling on a tight budget, but it was a great place. One down side: because it's a conspicuously nice hotel in a great location, cyclo and motorbike drivers congregate across the street, so you can't leave the hotel on foot without being swarmed with sales pitches.

  • Liked — Quality and cleanliness of the room; staff
  • Disliked — Costlier than necessary in Vietnam; nothing exciting about the food in the hotel

The Morin is a wonderfully restored French Colonial hotel.

While not quite as original as its sister in Saigon (The Majestic) it retains a whole lot of natural charm. Photos of bygone eras line the corridors.

The hotel takes up a whole city block and at its centre is a wonderful pool and garden area, where breakfast is served.

It is well positioned on the banks of the Perfume River and provides easy access to most sites in Hue.

I would not hesitate in recommending it. However, the only downside was the check in staff who on all occasions I dealt with them were aloof and dismissive. Most unusual for Vietnamese!

We stayed in several hotels during our trip, and the Saigon Morin was one of the best. The garden breakfast buffet is great (not quite as much atmosphere when it rains and you have to eat inside...). The room we stayed in was very large and comfortable, and overlooked the main street and the beautiful bridge. I wasn't bothered by street noise. The bathroom was fine. Not too small, not too big. The tub was nice and big. The shower was a hand held mounted to the wall - perfectly fine. It was a bit loose (the shower mount) and fell out on me, which was a bit of a suprise. I notified the concierge on our floor, and it was repaired by the time we came back from sight seeing. There are lots of great restaurants within walking distance, and the city itself is just a joy to explore.

This was the best hotel we stayed in in Vietnam. It is a lovely old French Colonial hotel right on the river, right across from the old town and close to the Citadel. We had a gorgeous large room on the 3rd floor overlooking the river. The room was a perfect mix of old world style and elegance with modern amenities. The hotel was refurbished recently with great care. The room had polished dark wood floors, elegant furniture, fabulous marble bathroom with a large shower and separate tub. The breakfast buffet was fabulous, and one evening, we tried the dinner buffet which was about $12/person, and it was fantastic: served in the beautiful lush courtyard, with a huge selection of goodies and live local entertainment. We would highly recommend this hotel. It was also great value for $100/night. There was also high speed internet access in the room which worked great.

I really like this hotel. Second only to one other hotel in Hue,the Saigon Morin is a lovely old, but refurbished, hotel right in the centre of town on the river.
I stayed there 5 times throughout 2006, and each stay was very nice. On each visit I booked a Deluxe room and was given a large room with 2 double beds, huge bathroom with full-size bath, and a sofa set under the window. The floor was polished wooden boards and the bed was extremely comfortable. The breakfast was a bit disappointing and when I returned from the local nightclub at 2am I found I had been locked out of the hotel (they soon let me in again) but these were the only negative things I can say about this hotel. The pool and outside areas are very nice, and I always found the staff to be very helpful. Almost every aspect of this hotel is good, but the rooms really won me over...very large, comfortable and nicely decorated.

The four star Saigon Morin has been carefully restored in recent years to its colonial era splendour and is well located in downtown Hué, a short taxi ride from the must-see Citadel. We stayed for just one night in a very large and well equipped room with a view over the street and the nearby bridge. The visit was marred by an incompetently served and at times inedible dinner in the # 2 restaurant (the main dining room was reserved for a wedding party). Breakfast was adequate but somewhat below the normal standard of similar Vietnamese hotels. The staff were generally pleasant and competent but our visit was too short to stress-test all the systems. Recommended for a short stay - look elsewhere for dinner.

Stayed here for two nights and we were upgraded to a very large room (103) on the 1st floor overlooking the main road to the nearby bridge.A bit of noise but not really a problem and worth it for the great view of the passing parade. Great bed and good shower and bath. A big plate of fruit was provided in the room gratis. Heaps of very friendly staff as usual in Vietnam. Good pool that was not large but was very deep and in a beautiful position. Excellent breakfast in the internal garden. This garden is a feature of the hotel with huge mature trees and exotic plants. The hotel is in a wonderful location and occupies the whole block. The hotel was built in 1901 and is very well restored. Make sure you don't miss visiting the citidal while in Hue.
