Description: Les Jardins De La Carambole is a new restaurant in Hue serving Vietnamese and French cuisine. It is inside the Citadel, very near the Forbidden City. It's an impressive reconstruction of a French Colonial Villa. Great attention was paid to every detail of the historic reconstruction.

Nice colonial setting, helpful staff, excellent and beautifully prepared food. I've been to lots of nice restaurants in vietnam and this was one of my favourite.

“Best we had in Hue”
Reviewed December 12, 2012

Great place, with nice decor and helpful staff. But most important, great food.
The banana blossom salad was phenomenal, and the duck main we had (can't remember the name) was great as well.
If you're in Hue definitely go to that restaurant. It's not far from the imperial city, so a good place to go after morning visits, and before the afternoon out of town visits (tombs etc).

“Good Food for a Good Price!”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

We came here for lunch after visiting the Citadel on a recommendation from Phong Nha farm-stay, they said you'll get great food here for a reasonable price.

Looking at the setting and the place we thought it was fancy and out of our price range, but it did turn out that it was all very reasonably priced! We had the Fresh spring rolls and the Hue Style vietnamese pancakes, the presentation was beautiful and the food was delicious! The Menu is more french then it is Vietnamese but we expected that!

I cant fault the staff and there service in anyway and would be glad to come back to eat any day!

Thanks for a great lunch and friendly service!

“Great vietnamese food in a classy restaurant”
Reviewed December 10, 2012 via mobile

Although this restaurant is down something of an alley and hard to find without a map, it was worth the searching. We were warmly greeted by our waitress and found we were the only ones in the restaurant. I ordered fresh rice paper rolls with pork and my friend Hue pancake. They were both delicious and the fresh rolls the best i have had in Vietnam so far (being one of my favourites this is an important note).

Being such a nice restaurant we expected the prices to be high but they were reasonable. We paid 200,000 dong for two meals and two drinks. Although this is more then usual for us it was worth it.

“Delicious Hue cuisine and lovely atmosphere”
Reviewed December 2, 2012 via mobile

We had a table on the balcony which was lovely with the ceiling fans. The Hue sampling menu was worth it. It had several steamed items and a crispy crepe. One remark about Hue style crispy pancakes is that they were not as good (to our taste) as the ones served in Hoi An and elsewhere in Vietnam. But that's just our preference in the cooking style.

For main course we has banana flower salad which was absolutely delicious. Alsp had beef with herbs (lemon grass, chilis, shallots and etc) steamed in banana leaf. It was sooooo good!!! This is similar to a dish we ordered at Miss Ly in Hoi An which was made with fish instead of beef. This one with beef was better.

We had fried banana + ice cream and a flan. They were ok. Nothing special.

We got to chat with the French owner (Paul???) about how he designed and built the restaurant from scratch last year using local craft men to make floor tiles, wooden shutters and etc. the house was in French colonial style full of wonderful details of the period.

Very glad we ended our Hue stay with this meal.
