We realy enjoyed our one night at hue nino. For example, since we had to leave very early (before breakfest time) for a tour, the people at the hotel gave us bread, butter and jam to go! Although the room is small, it was enough for us.
We loved this cute hotel: It became the standard by which we measured all our other hotels. We were provided a beautiful, unique, and tasty breakfast even on the morning of our arrival by train from Hanoi. The coffee was wonderful and you could have refills. The jams were homemade and they provided more bread or whatever you wanted. They greeted you with tea and dessert after a long day of walking. Don't let your cultural reservedness stop you from appreciating the staff's exhuberant and sincere helpfulness. They asked what you were doing only to see if they could help you in any way. It was raining one day so My My (one of the lovely staff) helped us with our options: a car to hire (not much to our liking) or a motorcycle or bicycles. She suggested bicycles (safer in the rain than motos) and made sure we had good plastic rain ponchos when we started to leave with our own bad ones. Our room (#301) was one of the deluxe ones (I looked at some of the others and while small, seemed very comfortable) and it was just so nice with the dark wood furnishings and original art in the room. They had even rigged up a wooden bathtub so that the water from the shower was more concentrated as it went down the drain. They had bathmats to dry your feet (which is so necessary and hardly ever given) and nice flip flops to wear around. And for those of you who didn't like taking off your muddy wet shoes at the hotel door....didn't you appreciate how clean the hotel was? As a side note... it appears that the owner has spent a lot of time and energy to make the place an example of eclectic artistry which I personally loved.
We stayed here for 2 nights. Great location, clean, friendly staff. They have bikes to rent which is awesome to see the old citadel and pagodas without taking a tour.The only downfalls were that the breakfast wasn't that wonderful, and the bedding was washed with a very strong smelling detergent. So if you have sensitive skin or allergies beware (as I do...my husband didn't notice). Overall very safe and accommodating.
We booked into this hotel for a night as we wanted to stay a further night in Hue and our original hotel The Jade was fully booked. We were picked up from the Jade and taken here by the owner on his moped! It's a fab quirky wee hotel, our room was clean and small but perfect for a nights stop over. The staff arranged for a private car to take us to Hoi An the following day which is well worth the money if you get a good English speaking driver as we have learnt more about Vietnam than we have on arranged tours or reading books! There is no buffet for breakfast however, if you are a westerner and cannot cope with noodles in the morning they do serve toast with various jams and fruit.
In January 2014 my husband and I stayed at this very accommodating hotel in Hue. They were very helpful in booking a flight for us and also calling a hotel in Hoi An where we wanted to stay at our next stop. Kim, who speaks very good English, and works the desk there, even took us to one of her favorite restaurants for an amazing vegetarian dinner. The hotel is very homey and inviting. You will be well cared for by all the staff!
The rooms at the HueNino were spartan but clean- we stayed in a double room w/ a window directly facing another building. The space was pretty tight for two- one end of the double bed was pushed against the wall. The bathroom was super tiny (even by Manhattan standards). The reception area is quirky and cute, very charming with fun details (little dolls, English sayings). We noticed that all the other people at the hotel seemed very nice, low-key, adventurous types- mix of ages (no loud party backpackers).
What sets the HueNino apart is the fantastic service and thoughtful intuitive staff. During our stay, we didn't really have think much about planning touristy things. My My helped to arrange a private boat to see Thien Mu Pagoda. We also booked a motorbike tour through the country. Both at very, very reasonable prices.
The breakfast was great- the first day we had American breakfast, but after that they gave us Vietnamese (since they knew we liked it)- the Bun Bo Hue was the best that I had in Hue!!! A couple times when I was in the lobby using wifi or waiting, the staff would bring tea or fruit- such a thoughtful gesture.
Location was also very good- short walking distance to restaurants and just a couple blocks from bars that cater to travelers (DMZ bar).
I would definitely return to HueNino because of the wonderful service. :)
