“Excellent guide - worth the extra $$ to hear the history from a veteran”
Reviewed June 8, 2012 via mobile

We combined our tour with 3 other travellers, for a total of 5 - this brought the cost down to $24pp. As budget travellers this is still expensive, but it was worth the extra cost. Though there isn't much to the sights of the DMZ - the GI bases are now all plantations - Anh our guide brought the area alive with his stories. We really appreciated the personal nature of the tour, and feel we would not have enjoyed the area at all without his insights. Probably not worth going if you don't have a vet guide.

“Stop & Go Cafe - high end DMZ tour”
Reviewed May 2, 2012

I would thoroughly recommend the Stop & Go Cafe DMZ tour. Our tour guide served during the Vietnam War and gave us extensive information about the conflict. We crammed in around 8 sites during an 8 hour trip, but we had sole access to the guide and a personal driver for $60 each (2 of us). Sights included Vinh Muoc tunnels, Ben Hai River, Khe San airbase and Dakrong bridge (although don’t quote me on all those spellings!!). You can also save money if there are more of you. However lunch was not included! By Vietnam standards this is something of an expensive tour - I'd view it as the Rolls Royce of DMZ tours. However you pay for what you get, and our guide was uninhibited in his answers to our questions (the War is a sensitive topic amongst some) and was happy to answer a veritable barrage of questions about the Vietnamese people and culture. We were invited to request additional stops for sightseeing and because of the personal driver and small group size were able to cram in so much more than we would've done on a 40 people or so group tour; this is ideal if your time in Vietnam is limited. (Also remember that many of the sites are spread far apart).

Final thought; you pay for what you get and as Vietnam is comparatively cheap for westerners you can afford to shell out occasionally and this is one occasion where I would recommend it.

“Reliable and provide good service.”
Reviewed March 24, 2012

We booked a private car to include tour of Hue city in the morning, then transport to Hoi An over Hai Van pass with stops along the way to Lao Cao beach, Marble mountains, Cham museum, and drop off at our hotel. Mr Bi was our guide and he speaks very good English. The price we paid is slightly lower than what others have quoted. They were also able to accomodate our last minute changed of using car for our morning tour instead of on motorbike as it was drizzling that morning & we did not want to get wet.

“Sick of boring, crowded day trips? Want to learn all about the DMZ from real veterans?”
Reviewed March 16, 2012

I did 2 tours with Stop and Go - the Royal Tombs on a motorbike with Mr Bill and the DMZ in a private car with Mr Vinh. I highly recommend both. I learned so much and was even more interested as they are veterans, not a standard tourist guide that is bored with their job! Lots of travel blogs and guide books say the DMZ is boring and I nearly didn't go. It probably is boring if you go on a big tourist bus and are hereded around like cattle. The Stop and Go tours are really interesting and personal.
