We stayed in hue recently for one night. Such a wonderful place to stay. So so helpful. Yummy breakfast. Showed us where to go Drew us maps, provided umbrellas, computer for use, lovely little bracelet when leaving. Friendliest staff we have met I our trip to Vietnam and I would highly recommend to all.

Room was basic, clean and perfect for what we needed. Guesthouse located down a little alley of other guest houses.

Thank you Phong LAN!!

My boyfriend and I stayed just one night here and our room was perfect, we loved it! Comfy double bed with a bright airy clean room with a balcony and cable tv. Breakfast was baguette with jam which was basic but still very tasty!

Other guests have commented on the owners pushiness to sell tours and we did notice this as soon as we arrived but it wasn't too bad, we just remained non commital to anything and booked our own motorbike tour through Hue adventures which was fab. The hotel staff didn't seem annoyed we hadn't used them to make the booking and were helpful in getting our bags etc down for us!
They also did our washing for us in super speedy time which was much appreciated!
The location is good on a quiet street and within walking distance of everything. We do think fondly of our one night here! Oh and they have us a little parting gift too of bracelet each which was a lovely touch!

I stayed with my girlfriend and some friends. We booked two double rooms and the whole experience was perfect.

Besides that the rooms are spotless, fresh and comfortable, the owners are the best of the place. Helpful and lovely, they invited us with a welcome homemade drink and treated us like family the whole time.
For example, lending us umbrella if it was raining and little things like that that make the difference.

Also, it was very cheap with a cheap breakfast option as well.
Strongly recommended!

My wife and I stayed at the Phong Lan for 3 nights in September.

I agonised over whether to give the Phong Lan 3 or 4 stars and ultimately I didn't have the heart to destroy their unbroken run; however, this review should definitely be read as 3.5 stars because I really take issue with the amount of cross-selling that we experienced during our stay. More about that later, though.

Our room was basic but clean, quiet, and comfortable with a Western-style soft bed which is a rare treat in Asia.

The breakfast was simple: a baguette with delicious home-made jams.

The staff were friendly and helpful but this was somewhat tainted by their distinct over-eagerness to sell us tours, transfers, flights, Halong Bay cruises, and train tickets. This bordered on rudeness on a couple of occasions: once interrupting a casual conversation with some fellow guests about Halong Bay, and once coming to stand over us at the computers in the foyer to ask what we were doing when they heard us talking about booking train tickets. (We were actually booking tickets from London Kings Cross to Wakefield for our return journey home in the UK, and I suspect that East Coast Mainline don't strike too many commission deals with hotels in Vietnam so nice try, but no cigar...)

This was a phenomenon that we encountered at other hotels in Vietnam and it was intensely irritating. I don't know whether the Vietnamese hotel industry as a whole fully appreciates the extent to which this type of behaviour undermines and devalues the relationship between the hotel and the guest. If every pleasantry that you exchange with hotel staff is simply treated as an opportunity to squeeze you for more commission, it is easy to end up feeling little more than a walking dollar bill.

It is worth noting if you are going to stay at the Phong Lan that the Hue tour company recommended by the Phong Lan gets quite poor reviews on Trip Advisor. I think that as the top rated guesthouse in Hue, the Phong Lan should probably think harder about whether they should associate themselves with such a poorly rated outfit if they are going to push the tours so exhaustively.

It is also worth noting that the price of the day tours (7.5USD for the morning, 10USD for the after) pales alongside the cost of the entrance fees to the monuments 105,000 Dong and 290,000 Dong respectively, and although the leaflet for the trip does state that entrance fees are not included, it would have been better to provide a detailed breakdown of the costs. If you read the reviews for Thang Long City Tour, you will find several people complaining about this at great length, and also the unwanted stops at commission paying gift shops.

Room Tip: There is no elevator at the guesthouse so request a room on a lower floor if you have trouble with s...

The guesthouse is well located, just 3min walk to the main street. Plenty of food stalls around the guesthouse, and most importantly, it is well priced and definitely worth it.

The family of the guesthouse is VERY VERY VERY friendly, they helped us with our tour bookings, laundries and yeap, you feel like you are at home! Very comfortable to be in the guesthouse.

I stayed in a 3 person room, (3 single beds inside) and the hotel rooms are quite big. Bathroom is well equipped too and the room is really clean. (with a balcony where we can dry our clothes outside!)

Simple, nice and clean guesthouse with good price. Will definitely recommend others to stay in here!

We stayed here for three nights, unfortunately I had a problem with my foot and couldn't go out so spent a lot of time in the guesthouse. The rooms are well appointed, spotlessly clean, light and airy. The bed is comfortable and the air conditioning is adequate (it was 31 degrees outside when we were there and we stayed cool inside). The balcony was fun to sit on and watch the daily lives of those around you. The biggest asset of this guesthouse is the wonderful family who own and run it. They are friendly, kind and endlessly helpful. We were greeted with a lovely homemade welcome drink, given a map and shown where the local sights are. As I couldn't make it down the stairs to breakfast they prepared a tray that my wife could bring upstairs. It is rare that you find this level of service and genuine kindness anywhere. As for value do money, I would challenge anyone to find better. Don't look any further than #1 on Tripadvisor, just stay here!

We enjoyed our stay here very much. It is very low cost and so the room and breakfast are basic but of solid quality. Room was a good size, with a balcony and (slow) wifi. Yes, breakfast was limited, but tasty. Simple, centrally located accommodation in Hue at a good price.
