For business trip, whereby only need a clean and safe place to sleep. This hotel serves its function. Breakfast is acceptable. Location is walking distances to places of interest. Even if you choose to travel by taxi, it will not be far to the nearby places of interest in city centre.

We found the May Hotel tidy, functional and handy to the city. The included buffet breakfast was good and we appreciated the refreshing roof top but semi enclosed pool. The pool was hardly used, we were usually the only ones there. The gym was open aired and therefore too hot to utilise, with a lot of the equipment not appearing to be functioning. We could easily find our way around, even if the streets just close by were a little dark at night. The beds were comfy and we enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: The rooms not facing the street may be quieter but we didnt find it excessively noisy considering th...

Although the hotel is located in district 1. The amount you pay for compared to what you get from the hotel is bad. The breakfast tasted very stale and the rooms are very old. The elevator is broken and has eroded walls and the rooms are typical of a 2* to 3* hotel. (The superior twin costs $100 and the shower is within a bathtub with plastic shower drapes. The walls are covered with a rotten yellow color and even the clock shows the wrong time). And though wifi is allocated to each room, we couldn't manage to connect even after telling management.

The hotel is incompetent and should be downgraded from its 4* classification.
Poor effort. You pay too much and get little from here.

Look for something else.

We just finished a visit in MCMC and stayed at the May Hotel. We had airport pick up and there was a bit of confusion between the Hotel Bell boy Allan and his driver. They didn't seem to know where each other was so we wasted time trying to find each other. On the drive to the hotel it was discussed if we wanted to book a tour it was best to do it with them and not the reception as they work on commission. He was definitely doing the sales job, and later when i got to the hotel i felt awkward discussing a tour with the reception. I booked 2 tours with the bell boys and 1 with the reception to share the wealth, however i feel now that the reception had better tours and better command of the english language so it was easier speaking with them. The tour to Cu Chi tunnels with the bellboys was good, however the bus ride from HCMC to Phnom Pehn was something else. First of all i wanted to clarify that i only had a receipt and no bus tickets, They said that was all i needed. Second, i wanted to know where i need to be. One bell boy told me that they would pick me up from the hotel then that was changed to i need to go to the bus depot. The morning of the ride i got the bell boy to tell the taxi driver exactly where we need to go. The taxi drove us to a travel agent office which was closed. After a lot of miscomunication we drove around in circles because i didn't want him to let us out there at a closed office. After which i said to the taxi to take us back to the hotel. The "reception" called the number of the agency and clarified the situation. We were in the right spot however it would have been nice to have been told this by the bell boys who would sold us the ticket and they just weren't open yet. Now onto the "Luxury" bus with sleeping beds. LMAO, the bus was far from it. It was an old bus with no toilet, dirty seats which did recline, but nothing of what he had showed us in the picture. There was a tv that played a 2* Vietnamese movie. After speaking with the guy beside me i found out the that this bus was the cheapest one! I paid double what he paid for a ticket. $20. I should have stayed with my first choice, Mekong Express. That apparently is the best one. So Allan really made some commission on my husband and i. A hotel should never put a client in the position of secretly choosing tours between staff. The reception tour of the Mekong river was very good and also her recommendations for dinner also very good.

Now onto the hotel. The room was nice, clean, and had a safe that was easy to operate. The noise from some kind of work that they were doing went into the evening to 10pm. The bath towels could be replaced. A bit old, The water temperature in the shower was erratic with the temperature suddenly changing from cool to hot for no reason. Be careful! Pillows were large and hard so after 1 night i asked for smaller soft ones and room service brought me better ones.

Breakfast was basic.

Pool on roof top not used. Bar up there not staffed. It would have been nice to go up there and have a drink or something. The exercise room empty. Tried to turn on a few machines but it seemed that everything was turned off on a breaker.

All in all it was a clean basic hotel in good location, however i think i would used the reception for tours as they were better organized and spoke english. Or if you choose book your tours through someone else.

We stayed for 3 nights in Jan 2014. We upgraded our booking to a suite (we are a couple travelling with our teenage daughter). The upgrade was well worth the money. Beds were comfortable and the suite had 2 TV's and aircon units. The 12th floor was quiet and the views of the city at night improved on the daytime vista. The windows are large and can be slid open (are not sealed) and it was nice to be able to stand at night and soak up the atmosphere of the city.
We used the pool (on the roof), it was perfect and both times we were the only residents using it.
The only meals we ate at the hotel were the breakfasts which were OK, the usual fare - no complaints from us.
The hotel is well sited, an easy walk to the cathedral, zoo, museum. Immediately adjacent appears to be an are of Japanese businesses and restaurants which all look good. we ate one meal at an Italian restaurant around the corner, it was very good. We looked for Vietnamese food in the area and nothing was obvious. We had massages nearby, $15 for 90 minutes for hot stone massage, very good value. Recommended.
We caught a taxi to the night market from outside the hotel - the fare was aprox. $2 but got ripped off big time by the taxi driver on the return trip who helped himself to the contents of my wallet. While we talked he placed his newspaper over my hand (holding my open wallet) to show me an advertisemnt for an attraction while he dipped into my wallet with the other. Very fast and slick but he only got $15 (I use a second wallet for my cards and cash).. I was pissed at being taken so easily. I get the feeling it happens frequently - it was a nice taxi (car),
Anyway - the hotel - very nice, professional staff, clean. We would go back, pay the extra and get a suite, it isn't that much more expensive and is well worth it.

The hotel is centrally located in district one of Ho Chi Minh city and is very close to many shopping centers, fast food outlets and Japanese restaurants. Even though its a 3 star hotel, It's not because of a lack of service as staff were friendly and very helpful, feel free to approach them to inquire about the sights, shopping and where to get great local delicacies. The breakfast spread was great with a range of Vietnamese and Western food. The room was adequately equipped with all you need nothing fancy but practical. We wanted to try out the pool but it was a bit too cold for us. There was also a nice gym and sauna which either seemed under used or very well maintained. All in all i would definitely recommend this hotel for your stay in Ho Chi Minh.
