When I booked thru Agoda, I didn't expect much of the hotel, knowing that it is in the backpacker's area.
So imagine my surprise when I found that it's a proper hotel with an amazing staff, who knows your group and asks about your trip. They even called to call us for a cocktail on our first night.
The breakfast is amazing, my friends and I loved it. The lady in the restaurant is very kind and nice and warm and pretty.
The rooms are just right for us.
Upon our check out (breakfast time), I forgot my camera in the room, and the good old man was shouting frantically about it. At first, we thought he wants to take a picture of us.
Really great place which is very near to everything.

We stayed at Duc Vuong for 4 nights and it was a fantastic base to explore Ho Chi Minh from. It is in an ideal location, about a minutes walk from the start of 'backpacker' street where you can get cheap and delicious food and drinks. The atmosphere is great and there is always something to do or see; from shopping to massages or having a beer on the street side. Although our room was small it was immaculately clean and very comfortable with a/c, fridge, tv and complimentary snacks. Our window looked on to a wall which didn't really bother us as the price was good. The hotel itself is very clean and modern. The staff are the friendliest and most helpful we have met on our travels throughout Vietnam. The tour service at the entrance is completely invaluable - the staff there spoke excellent english and helped us book our transportation (flights, trains, buses) for the rest of our trip as well as day tours to the Mekong Delta and Cu Chi Tunnels. This made it very easy to see all of the essentials in a short amount of time.
We had a few criticisms: breakfast was average with it has quite a small selection. We were very disappointed that the roof terrace was under construction as we were very excited about that and were not informed at the time of booking. It also meant that the extra social things like cocktails/BBQ for guests at the weekend are not on. During the day the noise from the construction is absolutely horrendous - so if you are looking to relax in the room any time between 8am and 6pm it won't happen. Fortunately we were out all day exploring the city so this did not have much of an effect on us.
Despite all of this we were super happy with our choice of Duc Vuong and would recommend it to any traveler with a big or small budget visiting HCMC.

Dear timrousbeaste,
First let us thank you very much for your very kind and thoughtful review of Duc Vuong Hotel.
We understand your frustration with the renovations that were taking place during your stay and would like to apologize for the inconvenience and as we are a growing business we did miss the very important point of informing our guests, this is something we deeply regret. We are, however very happy to announce that the Garden Terrace, City View Restaurant is now complete and will be worth coming back to see. We have given much thought to making this an amazing place for our wonderful guests to relax, morning for sunset, noon, or night to enjoy the radiant Viet Nam moonlight and our new menu and drinks make it even more enjoyable.
We would like to apologize for the minimal breakfast menu and we are listening, we have added a large selection of fresh items to our breakfast buffet. We would love to have the opportunity to have you come back and visit us again and give us the opportunity to welcome you back as
We are family".

Warm regards,

The welcome at the Duc Vuong Hotel could not have been more enthusiastic or warm. Even going so far as to put incoming guests’ names on the welcome board. The rooms are clean and comfortable and includes ammenities such as minibar and hair dyer. The hotel is in the middle of the “backpacker” section and easy walking distance to the primary areas of the city. Linda's huge buffet breakfast with made to order eggs and unique Vietnamese and western offerings each day sets you up for a great day of sightseeing. Every day the staff seemed just as excited for our adventures as we were. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: we had connecting rooms that were awesome as we were travelling with older children.

we travel as a family and got the room with the connected door, we stayed there for 4 nights (3 nights +1 night after coming back from the mekong delta).
we reserve it about 3.5 month ahead and we love the idea that we can eat at the terrace on the roof. when we got there we found out that they are renovating and we can't use the terrace, i thing that it would be nice to know before we are getting there.
the rooms were small but clean, and the we can't take a shower without weting all the floor at the bathroom. we need to ask for more towels for keeping it dry.
breakfast was average. location is great and we got the back rooms so for us it was very quiet (if you are willing to give up the view).
the stuff was very friendly and helpfull, and speak very nice english.

Room Tip: rooms at the back are very quiet

The standard rooms were fine and clean, will have to try the deluxe rooms next time!
The location was fabulous and so convenient as a base to explore from, the staff were very friendly and helpful.
But after a day wandering, shopping, eating, touring and exploring this fabulous city and meeting some of the wonderful people who call it home, the rooftop garden with some snacks and Saigon Greens to relax while the monsoon rains cascade down will be a memory to treasure. Can't wait to return!

We stayed at this hotel due to the good reviews on trip advisor. We got there and they advised us that they would give us a 'upgrade' due to the loud construction work. The room was very old and smelt strongly of smoke. They showed us another room which also smelt. The third room was okay. The receptionist also got a little angry on the phone about the complaint of smoke. The hotel is very dusty and needs a good dust clean.

The hotel services are also very pricey. The tours and airport transfers are almost double the price of tour company's elsewhere.

Finally, we asked for a late checkout and they said it was possible but they would charge us a half day rate. All other hotels we have stayed at in Vietnam allow you a few hours for free if requested.

One positive is the door man. He is always so nice and friendly!

We paid $22 a night on a special rate. We have paid $15 a night elsewhere in vietnam and it has been better.

Dear our valued customers,
We are really sorry about the inconveniences from the rooftop garden’s construction. Therefore, we offer to all our customers a higher rated room at a lower rate. In your case, Tram – the receptionist had offered you a standard room ($30) at only $22/night. Tram also said that “The important is not the room-typed or the room-rated but it’s your comfort at our hotel”. I’m apologizing about the “strongly of smoking” that you smelt. However, the receptionist quickly changed you to a better room which has shown our responsibility for our guests’ satisfaction. About our rooms’ quality, we are always ensuring that it’s over a 2-star rated hotel. The receptionist didn’t get any angry about the complaint of smoke; in fact, she was the one that helped you moved to the other room. The hotel is cleaned everyday for about 12 hours/day by our staff.
The hotel services are not very pricey. The airport transfer that you booked from the hotel’s cab is $10 which guaranteed that you would be taken directly to the airport and not being over-charged. Moreover, on that day, you were sharing the airport transfer fee with another room, so you actually only spent $5 for that. On the other hand, the tour services’ prices are charged based on the competitive prices in the area. If you said our tour price is almost double the other tour company, please specify that company and their price. Please do not give any wrong judgments on our hotel before you have the correct evidences.
Finally, as you requested for a late check-out, the hotel’s regulation already states that the check-out time is 12p.m. because someone else is waiting for their room to be check-in. At that time, the receptionist clearly told you that your room has been booked by other guests, so you can’t stay for few more hours unless paying a half-day price. It would be unfair for other guests if we allow you to stay like that. Anyway, in case if your room is non-booking, of course, you can stay for few hours free.
You paid $22/night with a special room combined with many free services from thehotel. Duc Vuong Hotel’s reputation has been built up with the best services and the best qualities. The other hotels with only $15/night can’t beat Duc Vuong 7-years reputation. The rooftop garden is going to be finished hopefully by September.
We are apologizing for any inconveniences that you’d got. Nevertheless, the hotel did pay you back that missing value by upgrading the room for you. Hence, your bad review is unfair to us with some incorrect information which could make misunderstanding for other guests to our hotel. Please update your review with the real situations and the real evidences. Please judge us fairly and correctly. Otherwise, we will request tripadvisor to take off your review from our page. Hope to see you soon in the future.

Just about to leave this hotel, we have stayed here 3 nights and it's been great, the staff are so welcoming they speak great English and even learn your name. We booked the cheapest room but they upgraded us because there was work going on and they didn't want us to be bothered by it, the room was a good size with comfy bed. The chef makes a good omelet for breakfast and on Sundays you get to have cocktails! We booked 3 trips with the travel agent- private tour to the tunnels 1 day city tour And 1 day on Mekong delta all highly recommended! The location is perfect as its so closet to everything, 10 min walk to markets! And great places to eat and drink along the street. Very safe area we found! Will defiantly stay here when we return!

Room Tip: If u want great service, good price great location and clean room pick this hotel!
