I have stayed in this hotel twice, Christmas 2010 and August 2011. It was a rather pleasant experience. The staff were very kind and gave a lot of useful information about the city. The rooms are clean and there is hot water, which is sometimes missing in Vietnam.

They provide free dinner. I only joined once. It was rather good. And there's party in the weekend, which unfortunately I missed.

The location is ok. It's in the tourist area Pham Ngu Lao but at the very end of it. It's good for those who like quiet places.

A very bad thing about this hotel is that it's VERY noisy in the lobby. I stayed on the first floor for two nights and I couldn't sleep. We changed to the fourth floor afterwards and it was much better. Another drawback is that they don't have electrical adaptors.

We stayed here for 2 nights in august 2011. The staff appear very friendly and want to help you with everything, not a bad quality but gets a little overbearing after a day or so. The rooms were very clean and a good size for the price. However, we had 2 rather big problems with our time there.

1. Theft not taken seriously

On out last morning we were due to depart for Cambodia at 9am. We needed to have the correct money to pay for our visa at the border so after waking before breakfast we counted our money to make sure we had enough, totalling 1,500,000 Dong (2x 500,000 dong, 5x100,000 dong and a few small notes). We then left our purse in the room (stupidly so) and had our (average) free breakfast. We returned to pack our bags and count our money again to double check, we then discovered the money was now totalling 1,200,00 Dong. After a thorough search of all bags and recounting the money several times we reported this to reception upon which we were told 'it is not possible" as the master key is behind reception, despite the fact there were several maids and maintenance staff on our floor in and out of various rooms. After a few choice words I asked the manager (who we presume was the manager) the question "so you are calling me a liar?" at which his response was a blunt "Yes". We chose not to pursue it further as it was quite an insignificant amount of money to us and we had a bus to catch.

As we were waiting the reception for our bus, the manager and several staff were arguing and waving around cards, pieces of paper and making imaginary signature signals with their hands, clearly the master key had not been signed out in the correct procedure or they have no clue of who has this master key at any given time.

2. Vegetarian options

As dinner is a free bonus with this hotel, we were looking forward to the experience as it was promoted quite significantly by the staff. The morning of the meal (around 9am) we approached reception asking if there was enough vegetarian food as my partner is an avid veggie. The manager then said there it a little but not a lot, so we politely asked to have a little more vegetarian food prepared, to make sure my partner had enough to eat, upon which his response was simply "no, we cannot do that". Another staff member then seemed to ask if a little more vegetarian food could be prepared for the evening, at this point the manager raised his voice, shot the other chap down and stormed off. Considering we’d paid for the room on the basis of a free meal included, we found this to be a disgusting response.

Upon the meal we discovered the only vegetarian options was plain spaghetti or cabbage...even with 10 hours notice this was a shocking response to a simple request!! That doubled with the manager and other staff donning wigs and sombreros and dancing around the room before several people had finished their food, an extremely strange situation and guests looked a little uncomfortable to say the least.

The sheer ignorance and flippancy in response to the theft left us gobsmacked, it seems the way of this hotel is to ignore the issues that don’t suit it in a positive manner and leave you to deal with their shortcomings.

We found this hotel on hostelworld for budget travellers, and I understand now why they are advertising on this type of site. We and other budget travellers expectations of accommodation is relatively low...and so should yours be if you book this hotel.

We welcome a response from the hotel!!!!

Staff were extremely friendly and helpful when we arrived.
Breakfast was Asian food plus European.
Room was very small could just about move around it and the shower although powerful the water ran all over the floor.
The roof top bar was nice with good views and the bar was cheap!
Internet was free and they even printed out some documents when requested.
Would return to this hotel...staff were great !!

Great hotel in a very busy city. The staff could not be more friendly and helpful. Tram deserves a special mention at the front desk. Best receptioinist yet, and I travel a lot.

Our only downside was the traffic noise from the second floor VIP room.

Great value hotel and highly recommended.

We arrived in HCMC and were picked up by our hotel, arrived and was given the choice to upgrade our room. Originally it was standard, (nice, clean but a little on the small size, so we upgraded to the deluxe for an additional $7 per night). Every Sunday night they have a free dinner and meet the other guests, unfortunately jetlag caught up with us and we slept thru this. Our conceirge advised us to watch my bag and my husnabd to place his wallet in the front of his pants as this was a backpackers area and to be careful. To be honest, we went to a "safer" areas for dinner etc but preferred the hustle bustle of the backpackers area. We both thought the Duc Vuong Hotel was located right in the best part of HCMC complete with a roof top bar, it was well priced well serviced and would happily stay there again.

Stayed here for 6 nights (on two separate occasions) and found everything to my liking - friendly staff, great security guys and good clean rooms with great beds, flat screen TVs etc.

The only minor problems is that where the room only has a shower, water tends to get over the floor but the bath mat soon cleaned that up.

Good breakfast included and we were offered a few free meals at night but did not take advantage of this offer. The roof top bar is an oasis and a lovely place to while a hour or two away looking at Saigon's highrise buildings and sipping a "cool" drink.

The security staff are top notch - when booking a taxi for you they note down all the details of the taxi etc so that if there is a problem and it is reported to them they can follow up with the taxi company - we never had any problems with taxis - only use Mai Linh or Vinasun.

I suspect there are probably cheaper hotels around in this area but I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and would stay there again if visiting HCM City in the future

This is an excellent hotel, without a doubt the best we stayed in during six weeks in Vietnam. It's spotlessly clean, and has the friendliest and most welcoming staff imaginable. We stayed on two separate occasions and it quickly became our home away from home. I cannot recommend the Duc Vuong highly enough - whatever your budget it, there's no reason to stay anywhere else in Saigon.
