We had a fantastic stay at Madam Cuc 64 Hotel. It was one of the best places we stayed in while traveling around Vietnam. The staff were super friendly and very accommodating.

The hotel is located in the heart of the backpacker district and therefore the street is very busy. Very near the main market and a short walk (about 1km) to the War Remnants Museum.

While there are a number of floors and no elevator there is a bag hoist so it is easy to transport bags up an down. Breakfast was simple but hearty and a basic dinner snack was provided for those that wanted it. Items in the room (water, beer etc) was very reasonable priced.

The room we stayed in was generously size along with the bathroom, which contained a near full size bath tub (the only one we saw in during our travels).

You could get a room with breakfast and dinner here for $16, but don't expect them to be very good.

There are 8 floors in the hotel, but there is no elevator.

There is nothing special about this hotel, maybe there was something special about it before it was printed as the number one hotel pic in the Lonely Planet. It was very crowded and the staff wasn't especially helpful. The rooms were adequate. Located in the heart of the backpacker district, which is a good thing for some and not so good for others.

We arrived at 3 am because of a late flight and even though they sent a car to pick us up, the hotel was locked up when we arrived and the staff was sleeping on cots in the lobby. The girl just handed us our key and said nothing. She was obviously not pleased with us.

Pros: breakfast included
Cons: there is nothing great about this hotel, stay at one of the other hundred hotels in the area that are exactly the same but less crowded.

we were origionally booked in for a night in 127 after having a nightmare finding the place they had moved us to 64.our original 20 dollar room was not available so we were given the option of a 16 dollar room or a 25 dollar room. we chose the 16 but not very happy about it. the place was really basic but friendly. the bathroom smelt really bad. good location.

We have been here this summer in two different occasions. Women rules in the hotel and everything is really clean and efficient. Lady at the front desk could look very serious at the beginning but just after a few chat she begins smiling and making jokes :-) Don't expect luxury or an elevator, everything is basic but rooms are comfortable, with a/c. If you are at the 7th floor then you have to walk a couple of stairs but it's good for your health. The way up could be steep, so if you suffer on cardiac problems please ask in advance for a first room, but could be noisy there. Last floor has an interesting view on the roof tops.
The surrounding area is very crowded, and HCMC lives at night exactly as during the day, so if you want just to have relax and be alone, consider another city district!

I stayed at Madam Cuc 64 for 4 nights. The hotel is in a good location, is clean and the staff are very friendly. I stayed in a different room everynight, despite making a booking 6 weeks before my stay. On the 2nd day I was supposed to move to a cheaper room, instead they tried to move me into a more expensive room and charge me more money. I argued, and stayed for the agreed price of the smaller room I was supposed to be in. This room was at the front of the hotel, and was extremely noisy until 3-4am. The other rooms I stayed in were not at the front of the building, and the noise was not an issue.
All in all, a good hotel...but don't take a room at the front

Room Tip: rooms at the front are very noisy during the night.
