I came to Miss Loi's after one dreadful guesthouse experience after another in Hanoi. I find it to be one of the best guesthouses I have stayed at in Vietnam for a number of reasons.
1. $15 for a nice sized room with a wonderful view of a pagoda
2. the place is SPOTLESS. the girls clean the floors on their hands and knees every day.
3. breakfast is free, and there is wifi
4. Miss Loi and her staff are absolutely charming
5. the neighborhood is great - Pham Ngu Lau prices, but far enough away that it does not feel touristy at all
6. QUIET
7. close to every place you need to be
8. a great rooftop

My only criticism of the guesthouse is that the ground floor is really dark. i guess the way its situated in the alley it doesn't get light on the bottom floors. and they don't like to use the lights! anyway, at least they are conserving.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

We fit and active Aussies, me 62 and wife 60, stayed there on the recommendation of our elder son and his wife who have stayed there a couple of times. We found it terrific. When we arrived after booking with them months earlier we were told they didn't have a room in Miss Loi's but would take us to a friend's. "Oh, oh," we thought, but it was just around the alleyway and on the second floor of a house. A huge room, exceptionally well furnished, immaculate, with a fridge, small balcony, air conditiong, plenty of halogen and normal lights, queen size bed, satellite TV and a good bathroom. They kept apologising because they had to charge us $15 instead of the $14 agreed months earlier because we had a balcony. Breakfast was tea or cofee, Vietnamese rolls with cheese and jam plus bananas, watermelon and pineapple. The staff were great. We're going back to Vietnam later this year and that's where we'll be staying in Saigon (or HCMC as the northerners prefer). Miss Loi is a very graceful, attractive lady.

We were taking a bus from Chau Doc in the South and had the Lonely Planet book as a guide which recommended this place as one of the best guesthouses in Saigon. Unbelievable. The place is situated in a dark, ugly alley -- we got a room right away but it's a five story walkup on winding stairs. Hope you are in fit shape! The workers were all zombies -- looked half dead -- no expression whatsoever. The rooms were smelly, small and had zero character. The lobby had hardly any light whatsoever, you could barely see a few feet in front of you. There was a permanently covered up pool table -- guess they don't like people to socialize. Breakfast consisted of stale bread and a Laughing Cow knockoff cheese along with tiresome dragon fruit. They have beach chairs in the lobby to sit on -- that's how bad it was. This was the worst place we stayed in for our 28 day SE Asian trip. Even some of the dodgy places in Cambodia were nicer than this. To be avoided.

Miss Loi is fine, decent rooms and all, for the price. Breakfast was great. We didn't make use of their "service" like everyone touts, but I found the service in the entire country of Vietnam to be better than anywhere I'd been, so I'm not sure that's unique. The rooms at least have space to store two people's things (not always the case in this price range) and spread out a bit. My only complaint is that we found ourselves walking a lot to get to the main sights and restaurants, as it's off the beaten path. Dirty street? Sure. But so is the rest of the city. It's safe and quiet, things you might not find elsewhere.

Miss Loi is a fanastic quaint little guesthouse. The rooms are fairly basic, but very clean some with tvs and others with cd players. Breakfast comes included and is a simple but filling meal of fruit, bread and tea/coffee. The best thing about Miss Loi's is the service. The people are fantastic I stayed with them this January and then came back in November. Even though they did not have a room available, one of the staff went with me to find a similar place nearby. Thankyou Miss Loi, I'll definately be back again.
