We stayed in Royal Lotus for 2 nights in December with a booking made through Agoda website. As this hotel requires the exact number of guests in a room during your booking, please make sure you state it correctly and keep your booking confirmation for your records.

Unfortunately for us, after we showed the booking confirmation for check in, I threw away the record. Upon going back to the hotel for our keys (check in time after 2), Eric, the front desk manager informed us that our booking was only for 1 guest per room. During this confusion, plus I have no records of my booking, Eric was very kind to help us through the check in procedure, and offered a reasonable top up for the "additional" guest. I am happy that Eric worked with us through the entire experience instead of just shoving things down us. So Thank You Eric.

Overall the hotel was very neat and clean, and all the staff are very friendly. I would recommend this hotel if you are staying in HCMC. Its also got great location to everything and yet away from the crazy busy.

The room was spacious, however when we entered, the first thing we noticed was the horrible smell. As if the room had been aired for months. Going into the bathroom, there was a all in one bathtub/shower/jakuzzi that looked very 60s and must have been since then as there was rust in various spots. We go in to take a shower and there was hair all over and a left toothbrush!!!! This was not even properly cleaned!!! Of course we were discussed but thought it cant get worse! Oh but it can! The towels had spots, the bed linen smelled bad and had multiple spots, the bed was so hard as if the matress was very old felt as if sleeping on wood.
We thought then it is a good idea to order. We could not communicate at all with the person on the phone, english was very poir, they made us spell every order and after 5 mins they came to our room to show them what we needed from the menu.
Overall this was the worst hotel we ve stayed, and we chose this as the raring was 4, which is unacceptable from independent providers to have such a high rating on a place that worths best case a 2. DO NOT STAY there. It is better to pay 10-20 dollars more and go to a trully 4 star hotel.
In general we travelled in all Vietnam and all 4-5 star hotels we stayed were very up to the standard of the rating. This was really not at all what we expected.

Just spend here for one night after arriving in the city.
Cheap one
Clean room, easy to go to other spots.
Welcoming staff
Comford bed, even bit small.
The only sad thing when ask about wich nearest minimarket is, the bell boy give a wrong info and make us bet long way to find a minimarket

This review is based on a single night stay: in after dark, and out by noon, so take this into consideration. I thought that the hotel was much better than what I had expected. It certainly helped that at check in we were offered an upgrade to a room in the new wing (I had booked old wing to keep price lower) by very polite and welcoming staff. The room turned out to be very well appointed, modern, very nicely decorated. The bed was very comfortable. I had not booked breakfast, but who needs it when you are basically in the centre of town, with so many options around you?! All in all I would most definitely recommend this hotel, which was MUCH nicer than a similarly priced and more hyped hotel on the main strip in town where we stayed later.

FITNESS: This is not a negative comment, but rather a piece of information for travellers that like me also would book the hotel on the ground of the availability of some gym equipment. Since most hotels don't offer any in Vietnam, the ones that do need to be praised. However: the entire gym equipment boils down to a machine to do bench press\incline press\shoulders, and one to do leg extensions\curls. There's a bench but only 2kg dumbbells. There's a treadmill and a set of weighted balls.
I wish there simply had been more equipment. A rack of weights (dumbbells), up to 20 or 40Kgs would have already greatly improved the setup.

We stayed in the hotel for three nights. Checking in the staff and reception were pleasant but as the stay went on the experience only got worse. Here is the whole low down:

The good:
Decor, the lower rank service staff is pleasant (mostly). Breakfast is good and starts early if you are looking to start your trip in the city early in the day.
The bell boy who brought our luggage to the room happily coordinated a change in our rooms as we were first offered a windowless room.

The bad:
1) Bed was not made till 4:00 PM and we had to ask them to make our room. The toiletries were never refreshed (One would expect better from a 4 star).
2) The towels were not refreshed either and we had to ask for fresh towels.
3) The rooms in old wing are rather small.

The ugly:
1) Spa: We got pedicure done and were told the difference between foot massage and pedicure is that they will remove dead skin in the pedicure but not massage the feet. Fair enough, but it ended up being only nail filing and cleaning exercise... no cleaning of the feet!! My nail polish was removed and was offered a new nail polish, but later on the manager told me putting the new nail polish will be at an extra cost.

2) The reception staff (I can offer names if needed) was rude on multiple occasions:
We were trying to plan a trip to the Mekong delta and wanted to know about the flexibility we had to cancel the last night so we can plan a trip, but were firmly refused about the possibility because apparently we had "already paid for it through the website" and would be charged regardless. When asked about hotel tours to Mekong, I found the person on front desk rude again as we were trying to decide about our itinerary.

3)At check out I was given a bill for all three nights when just the night before I was told I had already paid for three nights. When I asked for clarification I was made to wait for 45 minutes!!! (during which time I wrote this review)..During this time multiple new guests came and were received and checked in but I was not attended to. Wonderful city but the experience in the hotel VERY POOR!!!!

Stayed here on a Gate 1 trip, left very satisfied. The location is ideal: very short walk to the Opera area and about 10-15 min walk to the post office area.
Wifi was decent, breakfast was very good.
Try to get a high floor for a view of the city, if not, definitely go up to the roof for that great view!

Great location, right in the nice area of district 1 with an easy walking distance to restaurants and bars.
Nice clean rooms with comfortable beds.
The breakfast buffet was great! So much selection and was frequently topped up.
I would definitely stay here again!
