“Everything was fine I recommend”
Reviewed April 9, 2012

We stayed for 4 nights. Picked 2 parties up at airport at 1am. Makes coming to a new country easier. Our room was very nice, gave us an upgrade. Kept our suitcase when we did some overnight trips. Swimming pool was perfect for hot days and the kids. Had sections for both. It is a $5 taxi ride to city center. They give you a list of the good and bad taxis to take. The taxi ride itself is fun. Get to watch all the motorscooter traffic. We recommend this and will stay again when we return to HCMC. Breakfast was very good. Western, eastern, cereals, and as much youl can eat. Staff was accomodating to all of our needs. A little language barrier, but my fault as I don't speak Vietnamese.

Room is very clean and comfortable. Staffs are extremely helpful and very pleasant. Facilities, sauna, swimming pool and steam bath are cross the road. Swimming is free but you have to pay for the use of the Sauna and steam bath and you have to have a massage. The charges are double that which are stated in the hotel book in your room, the reason being the charges mentioned in the book are for the owner and the staffs need to be paid a "fixed tip" which is the same amount. So if you are going for the use of the facilities which sound great, don't get excited. However, on the plus side, there is a free transfer from the airport. Moreover, the non-smoking room. I am in one, but surrounded by smokers in different rooms on the same floor. I don't need to leave the room to face the unpleasant smell, the smoke comes under the door. They do have, however, a non smoking floor. Site seeing desk in the hotel is a let down, although helpful to provide information and make the booking, for some reason, tour operators don't come and pick you up from the hotel and you have to go to them.

Room Tip: If you are a non-smoker, ask for a room in no-smoking floor. Ask the staff if you need any thing, th...

We stayed at the First Hotel in January as part of a SE asia tour. My wife came down ill and needed to go to a clinic. The Hotel management and staff went out of their way to assist us. The manager recommended a clinic where we recieved good quality care, arranged for a taxi and assigned a staff member to stay with us the entire time to ensure there were no communication difficulties. They helped a bad situation from becoming worse for which we are gratefull. The hotel itself is a pleasant place to stay and I recommend it.

15 of us arrived at 10 p.m. and had to leave at 3:30 the next morning. The staff went out of their way to get us quickly into our rooms so we had more time to rest. The next morning they had packed our breakfast in take-away boxes. The door men were ready for us with the van. Our rooms were quiet, clean and comfortable. It was a 15 minute drive to the airport.

Our family of 2 adults and 2 kids (aged 6 and 8) stayed for 1 night here - it's very close to the airport so it was a good stopover location. We had 2 connecting rooms and they were a great size. We found the staff very friendly and welcoming - they went out of their way to ensure we were well looked after. The restaurant served a lovely breakfast. Overall it was a pleasant experience for our first night in Ho Chi Minh city and I highly recommend staying here when it's just for 1 night. It's a little far from the city if you want to spend longer though.

Room Tip: Ask for a non-smoking room.

First hotel is a perfectly decent place for a quick, close-to-the-airport overnight in Saigon. We arrived in Vietnam at 9pm and had a flight to Hanoi at 10am the next day. It was a quick 10min taxi to the hotel. Overall thoughts:

The doormen/bellhop type guys were very helpful and friendly.

Used Agoda to book and checking in went smoothly.

Front desk staff (entire hotel staff, really) were very friendly but also almost uniformly spoke only passable English. Not a big deal as we spoke almost zero Vietnamese (aside from hello/thank you/goodbye etc) and managed just fine.

We stayed in the most basic room available, so it was nothing fancy, very small, simple, but clean. Bed, like almost all of them in Vietnam, was rock hard. Not necessarily a bad thing depending on how firm you like your mattress.

Breakfast buffet was included and consisted of a variety of Western and Vietnamese dishes. Nothing that blew us away but again, perfectly fine for what we needed.

Don't be alarmed by my rating of 3/5 - to me that's decent, average, perfectly fine, nothing bad about it per se, just nothing that made it really shine or stand out. I think of Trip Advisor's 5 circles like 5 stars, and First Hotel deserves 3 stars.

Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at First Hotel again if I needed a pitstop in Saigon and would recommend to anyone seeking the same. For anything more than 1 night near the airport, head into the city for location alone. You'll want to be close in.

Perhaps it was because I was on a teaching assignment for Saigon Tourist, the corporation that owns most of the hotels in HCMC.

I was given a warm welcome at the airport and was driven in a car to the hotel. It is in close proximity to the airport, but far from everything else; a cab ride to District 1 takes 15 minutes.

The service from the staff was fantastic from the first day. They were accomodative, hospitable and gracious, making my 6-night stay trouble-free.

Particular commendations go to Chi, the duty manager and Chuon, from the 24-hour restaurant. Both gave exemplary service and encounters with them never disappoint. Chi went out of the way to run an errand for us and never once showed that we were imposing on her. Kudos, First Hotel, you have a great team member.

I would recommend First Hotel if you are in transit to other parts of
Vietnam.
