Unlike typical Chinese temples, the neighborhood around this one is not teeming with shops selling cheap Buddhist trinkets. The main hall features one very large, wooden seated Shakyamuni. There is a small Buddhist bookstore (all Vietnamese) on the grounds. Highly recommended for devotees, perhaps somewhat less interesting for pure tourists.

Ta "Xa Loi Pagoda" to "Cholon" Chinatown,
Ho Chi Min City. The air inside is almost full of incense, in areas of sky
open, there are fans that push the fumes upwards. The different Buddha
are requested by the faithful, who sometimes silently recite short prayers
even a single minute before leaving. The beautiful pagoda of the early
twentieth century, is full of altars, sculptures and golden statues, antique vases, votive offerings and
incomprehensible to us Westerners "ignorant"

The Xa Loi pagoda is not very far from the centre (Ben Thanh market) and is a good place to visit if you want a quiet spell in an otherwise busy city.
The central hall has a nice architecture with a big Buddha statue. It is literally a cool place. I visited it several times and was usually the only visitor.
Mind the 'business' hours: the pagoda is open from 7am to 11am and from 14pm to 17pm.
