Stayed at this Hotel 5 days in March. Staff are very attentive to all your needs and friendly. Hotel is new so very clean. Gym still being installed but shouldn't be too far off. Nice rooftop pool area for quick swim and cool off. Lounge with great views. Location is ok, 5 min walk to main back packers area (Bui Vien Street), but you do pass though some small back areas. I felt ok walking through there with my wife and did it a few times but I wouldn't let her walk alone. Anyway, plenty of vinasun taxi's around for a quick ride that would cost you only a $1 to take you down the street. Breakfast was small and very basic (but don't forget what your paying), nice setting for breakfast too. Not a lot close by in the way of convenience store or laundry. Free wi-fi in all rooms, Free wi-fi at most places in Ho Chi Minh - with fast enough connection. No business centre but 2 computers near foyer handy to upload photos. Other plus for this hotel is late check out of 12pm. I would definitely stay here again. Couldn't find many Hotels in District 1, with nice pool, includes breakfast at this price.. so I give it excellent rating!

Room Tip: We initially had room on 4 but changed after first night to floor 11 because I wanted to be on highe...

Enjoyed my time at Sunland. Like many areas of Ho Chi Minh there is a lot of construction going on in area but quietens down after dark. Rooms are good and staff very friendly and helpful. Ho Chi Minh is a city of transitions. I walked through many of the laneways near the hotel and found the locals very friendly and smiled back if you smiled at them. Never felt threatened but was on alert for scooters and walked towards traffic. It is a city of poverty and affluence crushed in to each other. The streets transform from market to dining in a very short time and people live on the streets.
The breakfast was enough to keep me going all day. The pool was a relief as the breeze at that height contrasts to the humidity at street level.

Room Tip: Probably higher is better for breeze. Air con worked well but I like fresh air. Had east facing room...

I loved staying at Sunland. Yes, it was a little bit out of the 'backpackers district' however we had a great view of the river and surrounding city (obviously, ask for a room on a higher floor for the amazing view and less road noise - we were on the 10th floor) plus it was fun to walk from our hotel to the city center to see all the local restaurants busy at night and the roadside markets every morning. There are a couple roads that may be 'dangerous' to cross when walking into the center but you have to expect dodgy road crossings when coming to Ho Chi Minh City. Rooftop pool was so good to come home to. Clean rooms, helpful staff and great buffet breakfast.

We had several Vietnamese locals warn us about walking back to our hotel at night. They said that the area wasn't very safe where the hotel was located. We found this out after we booked.

The hotel itself was average. The room was fairly large and clean and the hotel staff were friendly and helpful.

The breakfast buffet was slightly above average, with a good selection of Western and Asian choices.

I probably wouldn't stay here again, it was inconvenient to get to and in light of the safety warnings, it's probably not a really good choice.

We got a good discount on this place through Agoda and found it to be great value for the money paid for a two bedroom unit. Nice little pool on the roof with a bar, rooms more than adequate for our needs, staff really attentive and always happy to assist. Not really close to all the action with respect to restaurants but they were only a 10-15 minute walk up an interesting street which was never a problem. Taxi only costs a dollar or so anyway. I'm a light sleeper and found the traffic noise a bit of an issue but good earplugs solved that. It wasn't even noticed by my daughters and it is Saigon after all - it's a great, vibrant city and I imagine it would be very difficult to escape the honking of the horns wherever you went. I'd return to the Sunland

we stayed at this hotel for four nights in a two bedroom suite not long after it opened. Sure it`s not smack bang in the city centre (it`s riverside)but we were able to walk to the main attractions within 15mins or payed no more than 50,000VND to catch a taxi around. The pool area was a great place for a relaxing drink, with all staff being both helpful & attentive. It`s set back off the road & as the city comes to life of a night so does the surrounding area with bars & restaurants.
