This is backpacker alley. At night, locals as well as travelers congregate to drink and party. There are a lot of restaurants, pubs, massage shops, coffee shops, etc.
Prices here will be higher because of the masses of foreigners. I've only been at night and it's much better than visiting during the day but it gets quite crowded. If you have a car, try to avoid this street as much as possible. If you're coming by taxi, have them drop you off at a corner.
The vendors setup tables and chairs offer drinks. Be advised, that some stalls will not let you sit down or stay if you're not buying alcohol, at least in my experience. One night I went out with a few friends from the hostel, sat down, we ordered beers, we also ordered some food which they have someone else cook up nearby and then bring to your table. I saw my food come from some random person's apartment lol. We had a good time, called it quits and went to bed. The next night, I was by myself and went back to the same stall only this time the old lady refused to let me sit down because I was by myself. I took my sulking butt to another stall and this time they let me sit down but once I told them I wasn't gonna be buying alcohol and only wanted some food and water, they told me these tables are for drinking customers only.
There's also massive groups of kids doing pub crawls, good for people watching. My advice is come a little earlier to grab yourself a seat or otherwise you're out of luck.
