My wife and I started our honeymoon in Vietnam with a 3-nights stay in the Windsor Plaza Hotel in Saigon. We were somewhat "bewildered" at arrival after a 20-hour trip, and hotel personnel were looking a bit strange at us and our backpacks (did we maybe smell like durian fruit? You are forebidden to take this into the hotel, if you have smelled it, you'll understand why). However, after they dug up our reservation for an “executive room” (made on splendia.com – great website!!!), we could immediately start to enjoy the amenities of the executive lounge on the 24th floor.
What was great about this hotel?
- Ecellent and large choice in breakfast
- Excellent room, although the dvd player was broken
- Complimentary minibar for executive room
- Complimentary drinks and appetizers in the executive lounge
- The wonderful cake we were offered in honour of our wedding
- The free shuttle to city centre
- The rooftop pool, that seemed to be reserved for us 2 only
- Very friendly staff
- …

However, don’t forget you’re in Asia: they will still try to rip you off if they have the chance. We booked a few extras via the hotel/travel office of the hotel: a one day trip to the Cu Chi tunnels and the Cao Dai temple: very expensive, and not at all “authentic”. Worst thing about this 1-day trip: lunch in some tourist place where there was no Vietnamese in sight, except for the waitress. We also booked a private driver to the Mekong delta via executive reception (they strongly dissuaded us to take public transport). It was very well organized, but we paid 75$. Since we were only starting our trip, we didn’t have a clue that we were being robbed… But we got where we wanted to be in a very confortable car, which was nice. As always in Vietnam, the driver who was said to speak fluently English could barely understand us.

I was disappointed though that we had to pay for the shuttle from the airport to the hotel. At first, the driver even refused to take us, since we didn't make reservations up front. Then, after a call with hotel reception, they did take us in the end (for I think it was 12$ per person). We were the only 2 in the minibus. Makes me wonder what and who they were waiting for at the airport, if in the end they did take only the 2 of us to the hotel...

All in all: great hotel for a fantastic price: I still find the executive room at 79$ per night excellent value for money.

Room Tip: I would definitly recommend Executive room. You get greet complimentary drinks and food. Look for th...

Thank you very much for sharing your experiences about your stay with us and recommending our hotel to other travelers.
Great, that you have enjoyed our service, facilities and benefits even if there were some points with which you are not happy.
We have discussed the pick-up problem upon arrival at the airport within our team as well as with the management of the tour desk in order to improve the service and to follow up on this - We regret very much that you have experienced these problems.

Beware of this hotel it is awful, the room that we stayed in was horrible the bathtub was yellow and the entire room stank due to the old carpet. The first room smelled so bad that we had to change rooms the second wasn't any better. We had booked a room to accommodate 2adult and 2 children and fully paid for it before arrival, upon check in we were advised I had to pay extra if my 6yr old
wanted breakfast!!! This is no way a 5 star hotel, we stayed at a 3 star at the beginning of hotel and it was 10 times better than this place. I regretted staying here and would warn others to reconsider before booking. Reception staff does not know the meaning of a smile as we were not afforded this during our two day stay.

Hotel was better than were were expecting, it was booked as part of a package and I was a little sceptical but was pleasantly surprised. It was clean and the rooms big, yes in an ideal world the decor could have been more contemporary and the bathrooms perhaps in need of an overhaul but good value for money. We stayed in the exec club and was worth the extra just for the free drinks and the private breakfast.

The restaurant on the 25th floor was great value and fabulous views. If we were going back I think I would prefer to stay in discritct one but then would be charged double the amount no doubt. The mini bus was invalauble and drops off in the centre once an hour and runs until late in the night.

All in all great value and clean, staff cannot do enough to help.

Room Tip: pay for the exec upgrade and spa is v good value

Thank you for your feedback, that we have exceeded your expectations and that is was a positive surprise for you staying in the tallest building of the historical part of Saigon.
It is indeed our intention to create experiences like you did, since many travelers are not expecting a high standard of service and great facilities outside of district 1.

We would be very happy having you staying with us again when coming back to Saigon.

What was the saying from the real estate agents: the three most important things in a property are location, location and location. Well, OK, that's a bit off-subject. But still in this case it is important to note that the hotel is in Saigon's 5th district. Most of the city's tourist sights are in or around the 1st district.

Hence, if you have some business in the 5th district, this hotel is a great choice. If you're just going to do tourism, you're a bit off target, but this is not really a problem. Strolling around the 5th district is interesting by itself - but you'll be mostly venturing eastward towards the river towards the 1st district. In this case the hotel might be a good choice for you as well. The hotel has an hourly shuttle from 7 AM to 11 PM that stops near most "interesting" locations in the city. In fact, several of these stops are at touristy restaurants where you get a discount when you can show your room key. But you don't have to go to those "recommended" restaurants (I didn't) - they are pretty close to most other attractions that the city has to offer to tourists. So from that side, you're covered, if you need to go to the "typical" places - either take the hotel shuttle, or take a taxi (the Vinasun taxi company is reliable and cheap).

So how about the place? It has everything that you would expect from an up-scale hotel. My recommendation would be that you dish out for the executive rooms. They are a bit more expensive, but I think it's worth it. Why? You get two free laundry items per day, as well as the well-stocked in-room fridge for free (the latter is actually a bit of a known secret - many people actually don't know about this fact, but it's true). Also, you can take your breakfast on the top-floor in a reserved lounge with any style of breakfast that you can imagine.

The hotel itself has quite a few amenities, many of them I've never tried. But I have been to the top floor bar which offers a great view of Saigon. Also, the buffet restaurant on the fourth floor (I think) has a good choice at reasonable prices. If you're not on the executive floor and can make use of the breakfast on the roof, or if you are and just want to try something different, give it a try. The lunch menu is also great.

Last but not least, let's not forget the "happy hour" which takes place on the executive floor as well with free drinks and snacks. A good way to get to know some other travelers.

Internet is available through a wired connection in your room. No WIFI as far as I remember - or if there is, then you'll probably have to dish out for it. Better to get a local "Tomato" SIM card from the Viettel operator. They give them for free to tourists when you exit the airport (just on your left, as you are just about to exit). For about 5 $ you can get something like 350 Mb of 3G data traffic to use within a month, and VOIP works great using the 3G network. And talking about the airport... the hotel will pick you up with their shuttle, just let them know in advance. I don't remember if there was any fee for that - I don't think so, but if there was it wasn't much.

So about the hotel... I'll definitely stay there again. Great place, good value, I didn't mind to be a bit further away from most of the other tourists because of the shuttle service that they offered, and besides I had business in the 5th district anyway.

One thing. If you plan to visit the "American Disco" downstairs (i don't think it's part of the hotel, but it's in the same building), don't go alone. It is perfectly safe (there are plenty of security people), but there's a big chance that you'll probably be the only non-Vietnamese person there. People there are really nice, but you'll be a bit of an attraction, meaning that everybody will invite you to shots, they just keep coming one after the other. Sound too god to be true? I don't know. Be warned ;-)

Room Tip: Go for the executive rooms. The extras are worth the money (I think).

Thank you very much for giving us such detailed and interesting feedback.
Even if we are 15 minutes far only from the city center (town hall, opera house . . . ) it was very nice reading, that finally nothing were missing while staying with us and that the benefits we attached to our executive rooms, the facilities and service were just right for you.
Probably, many travelers staying in district 1 (city center directly) will not experience the historical part of Saigon with its very interesting buildings and lifestyle in which we are located.
We are looking forward welcoming you again when returning to Vietnam any time in future.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Windsor. The staff go above and beyond to ensure that you are able to enjoy all of the facilities and conveniences that the hotel has to offer. The location isn't very central however the almost round the clock shuttle bus resolved this easily. The taxis are so cheap to and from the hotel that you will find that lots of travellers don't bother to walk shorter distances anyway - this is also due to the heat and rapidly attractive air-conditioning. The Concierge are extremely helpful if you need information or have any difficulties also because there are so many people there to assist you.

The buffet is incredible but make sure you don't go too late (after 9pm) especially on the weekend as the enormous range of seafood options will have been largely devoured. There's also a great gym, pool, beauty salon, business centre and full shopping centre under the hotel if you don't feel like going far. My $8USD manicure was excellent and fast. Being in the Chinatown of Ho Chi Minh City you also have plenty of options close by if you do feel like a walk particularly the fresh outdoor fruit markets just next door if you feel like some fat cherries or lychees.

I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: I purchased my room through a Flightcentre Package and believe I paid less than half the published r...
