“Good not Average”
Reviewed December 27, 2012

This is where i wish 3 stars on TA was good not Average. The Arts Museum has a wide range of different Vietnamese arts from paints to sculpture dating back as far as 400ad. As with any collection there is stuff you like and don't like, if you like art or are interested in culture it's worth a visit.

Only things we wish this place had were, aircon and better descriptions of the pieces and what they meant, though you don't always get this even in some of the best galleries around the world.

Entrance fee for an adult was 10,000VND

People with mobility impairments will not be able to easily access this, while there was a lift it was the original one from the 1930's, accordingly i think you can only use the stairs.

“Pleasant Museum!”
Reviewed December 22, 2012

I’m not that interested or knowledgeable about Asian art but I wanted to visit this museum to learn more about it and it worked well into my schedule of visiting Antique street (Le Cong Kieu) and visiting Ben Thanth Market. It’s open Tuesday-Sunday 9am-4ish and one of the few places that doesn’t close for lunch. As most reviewers have said the French Colonial building is beautiful and views from the third floor which is now open are interesting, easily justifying the 10,000 VD (USA .50 cents) to visit! I enjoyed the museum set over three levels with an amazing amount of signage in English and a wide variety of forms and styles; painting, sculpture, bronze, enamel, pottery, outdoor statues, etc. I felt it was well worth the visit and after wards enjoyed an ice tea in the museum garden café (35,000VD or $1.50). There is also a small museum shop, western style, clean bathrooms around every corner (with TP!), storage lockers and you may take pictures without flash. Overall a pleasant 1 hour visit.

“Worth a very short visit”
Reviewed December 7, 2012

My partner and I, an artist, visited the Museum and found that the building more attractive than the art.
Not well lit or signposted, it is worth visiting (and has lots of shops selling not very good art) if you want to see the politics of art and the limitations the State has imposed on the imagination of its artists.

“Fascinating look into local culture”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Housed in a beautiful colonial building, the art inside covers mostly modern and contemporary styles. It is not as cutting edge as other galleries I have seen around the world, but the art is a fascinating look at Veitnamese politics, daily life and emotions. It really offers a good perspective on the city and the people, and some of the pieces are very decent.
