Although very one-sided (as if both sides did not commit atrocities in that stupid war), it is worth visiting just as a refresher of mankind stupidity and capacity for horrible acts.

This is the best way to learn about Vietnam, it's people, and its history. It is the best museum in town, just as the Museum of Ethnology in the best museum in Hanoi. Don't miss either.

Not to be confused with the War Remnants Museum, the History Museum is located in District 1, and houses a chronological collection of artefacts from prehistoric times up to the middle of the 20th Century. Most interesting for me were the Tran and Ho period exhibits from the time Westerners would call the Middle Ages. An interesting insight into the development of regional culture.

Housed in a pagoda style building in the city it was a very interesting insight into what is a very complex history. Someone came round after 1/2 hr to say they were closed till 1.30 we just ignored them and carried on without problem!! The presentation is good but the range of artifacts is limited- overall worth a visit although some other reviewers appear to have been to a different place altogether!! as we didn't see any modern vietnamese history at all but some superb Cham sculptures.
