After reading a few reports on Tripadvisor, I went with an open mind, being ex military. You get the usual "vendors" wanting to sell you books and dvd's relating to the war, as seen from the Vietnamese side. Once inside you certainly get the feeling it was a "glorious victory" for the local people, and that the Americans were nothing more than monsters. Looking further than that, there was a fantastic photographic account of all aspects of the war, both good and truly gruesome. It is on several levels, and divided into themes decided by the Vietnamese Government.
Go in with an open mind, and experience the horror of what was the Vietnam War.
Well worth the look.

Some great photographs, most of which where extremely gut wrenching, but interesting nevertheless. Each of the exhibits was clearly labelled and easy to identify. Not for the faint hearted.

The museum is located inside of the city zoo so you can also visit the zoo upon buying the entrance ticket. There’s a display of the oldest mummy ever found in Vietnam and other items, dioramas of the wartime of Vietnam. We like the atmosphere here.

Another one of those places that visitors to HCMC must visit. Lots to read and see and for me great historical perspective from a Vietnamese viewpoint

Museum is located right by the Zoo and offers a nice overview of the history of Vietnam. Some parts have been upgraded recently and look very nice. There is also a small water puppet theater in the complex. Whole museum will keep you busy for 90 minutes.
