“cosy and clean with super friendly staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2014

My friend and I stumbled across this tiny hotel when wandering around the streets of saigon after an exhausting and "fraudful" journey from phnom penh (beware of taxi drivers who wait unasked at the main busstation, check your location first and better stop a taxi yourself ;)
Anyway.. even though our days in Saigon started badly that way, our lovely host at the Vinh Chung Hotel made us feel welcome from the start. The Hotel is a family business which makes it a very friendly place to stay. The staff was very helpful with every question we had. The room was quiet, clean and nicely furnished. We liked it there so much that, after a short and kind of disappointing trip to Mui Ne- we came back and spent the rest of our holiday at Vinh Chung, enjoying Saigons bustling city life.

We highly recommend the place!

Vinh chung us the perfect place to stay on if youre on Saigon/Ho chi minh for the first time. Its cheap and central plus youve got the most hepful landlady of all time (Happy). Getting tips and advice on where to go, best restaurants and so on us reallt helpful if you wont stay long enough to figure it out all ju yourself! But if you live at vinh chung, dont book trips with sunrise backpackers which us really close, they tried to screw us and did with 5min before our bus left.

This is good basic accommodation in the heart of the backpacker district of HCMC. This is a very boisterous neighborhood most nights (late night karaoke, etc), so you must bring earplugs if you value sleeping at a reasonable hour! Very important!

The staff is kind and helpful. They can change USD to VND, and book tours. We did the Cu Chi tunnels tour through them and it was fine (occasionally some bothersome propaganda, but still interesting); not sure if the price was the best, so it may be worth shopping around. They can also pick you up at the airport if you ask beforehand, very convenient. Many thanks to the driver for putting up with the multiple flight delays (delayed over 8 hours leaving rodent-infested Hanoi airport - thanks for nothing Jetstar!!! You get what you pay for - never flying with them again) and still picking us up at 330 AM!
With notice, they can also arrange transpo back to the airport when you leave (recommended).

We got a twin room and the beds were clean and fine. There was a safe (slightly confusing to use) in a small closet. Believe there was a small fridge as well. Essential AC and Wifi worked well. The shower is local style (no bathtub). I did notice some small ants in the bathroom from time to time; no real issues with them but it was annoying. Somehow several mosquitoes made it into the bathroom as well. There were several English language channels on the TV. Be aware that there is no elevator. The room key is huge and very annoying to carry around. There is a desktop PC on the 1st floor but its almost always occupied. We used their relatively cheap laundry service and things came back fine.

The location is not too bad. I tired of the backpacker crowd quickly and its associated distasteful baggage (constant touts, shady/low quality bars, etc), but there are many good restaurants (including decent approximations of Western food) within a 5-15 minute walk in most directions. The neighborhood is very busy and can get quite crowded. Downtown HCMC and associated sights (Notre Dame, War Remnants museum, Reunification Palace, tourist trap market) are about a 20-25 min walk away. You will need a cab (use Vina Sun, don't trust the others) for certain other sights though. We didn't use the scooters who hang out in front of the hotel all day.

If you can stand the crowd and think you can sleep through painful late night renditions of dated and recent Western pop songs, this place is a decent value.

Stayed a couple of nights here in March 2014.

The reception was welcoming and for a small budget hotel in this central location..... the rooms were clean & comfortable with air con & hot water shower......making it good value for money.

Very helpful when we needed assistance and local information etc etc

Room Tip: Excellent food at the Seven Oysters just around the corner.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights.

The first night we arrived very late at night. The hostess stayed up to let us in and showed us our room. The room was clean, with a comfy bed, enough space for our luggage and a hot water shower. The curtains could have been darker since a lot of light came in in the morning and there was also a lot of noise from the street (even at a higher floor), but that is of course the counterpart of staying at a great location like this. The hotel is located in a small side street, in the middle of the backpacker district.

The best part of our stay was the service by the hostess, Happy. She helped us with a good and cheap simcard with 3G, a tour to Cu Chi and bus tickets to Dalat. The laundry service was quick and good. Everything was carried out with a smile. She is a very sweet lady who will go out of her way to make sure you enjoy your stay.

Overall we found this place to be very good value for money at this location. Definitely recommended!

Excellent location, very clean, quiet, friendly. around 16 us per night. Right in the heart of the backpacker area but very peaceful. all amenities close by. Friendly and helpful staff, nothing is too much trouble.

Hi, If your looking for a resort this not for you. If your looking to be in the centre of the action at a low price this maybe what you are looking for. Its clean, safe, air-conditioned with HAPPY the Hotel Owner/ Manager only to pleased to help with all the silly questions we ask. You can book tours from there, You can be picked up at the Airport and taken back for a reasonable price and no fuss. Of course your in District 1 so it can be a tad noisy but not so much that you wont get a got night sleep after a couple of beers and a feed at the many Pubs.
My advice is to carry some anti biotics for upset stomachs and never where anything around your neck that shines. You will loose it. Steve
PS: Can have quality suits etc made up the street at Phi Yen Tailors
