Ibis Saigon South Hotel
Ranked #110 of 462 Hotels in Ho Chi Minh City
Reviewed October 14, 2012

This is a good, clean hotel, but has many drawbacks.

The Good: Ibis is a clean, standard hotel brand that has the same rooms and layout in the majority of their hotels around the world. This hotel was no exception and was clean, well staffed, and the hotel layout was roughly the same as most around the world.

The Bad: The following are not bad, but merely things to note when booking the hotel:

Location: Most tourists like to stay in "District 1" in Ho Chi Minh (the main shopping, business and entertainment district). This hotel is 30 minutes cab drive south east of District 1 (Novotel and Sofitel are in District 1), and one hour drive from the main airport.

Price: Hotel is around $70 USD/night before taxes. Competitors in Accor Group Novotel is $100 and Sofitel is $120 (approximately). Novotel and Sofitel are in District 1 and Sofitel is about three times as nice as Ibis.

Service: Overall good service but with a few hiccups. Front desk asks to hold your passport overnight to "check with the local police security bureau" which is somewhat annoying. Breakfast will add meat to your omlet even if you ask for Vegetarian. Front desk speak english but not perfectly.

Decor: Hotel was only two months old at the time of my visit (October 2012) and the carpeting still seemed old, and the shower was not fully constructed properly.

Not a bad hotel, but consider other options (such as Novotel or Sofitel) if you want a more centrally located hotel and a slightly more western experience.

The hotel is new and service is pretty good in general but the location is not suitable for business travelers because it's located on the other side of the Saigon River and on the average (without traffic - which is a daily problem), it would take at least 1 hour to get to District 1 (across the river) and 1.5 hours during rush hour!

The hotel is clean, the reception is friend. Breakfast is good. Wifi speed is ok. Totally the C/P is great. If you participate the exhibition in SECC, this hotel is the best choice for exhibitor who doesn't want to spend times on traffic. It is just 3 mins by walk. However, if you would like to have nightlife, you may stay in District 1 instead. There is a bank and mall nearby, just walk distance, no more than 5 mins.

The hotel has only been open for a couple months, so clearly everything is clean, modern and in excellent condition.

The front desk and restaurant staff are really friendly and helpful, which added warmth and character to the hotel.

Breakfast and lunch were really good and at reasonable prices. (Breakfast included and there is a dinner promotion until the end of October for 30% off and happy hour drinks.)

Location is right across the street from the convention center, making it ideal if that's why you are in HoChiMinh City. Otherwise, it's a bit far from anything else, about an US$8 cab ride to town, and coming back can be challenging as most cab drivers I encountered didn't know it even with the address.

As is standard with Ibis Hotels, I'm told, rooms are very small. Comfortable, but small.
