After living in Saigon for many years, it's nice to find a great new restaurant!
The food is really good, the prices are great and you can sit inside or outside.
I highly recommend Zest.

Located just next to the Ton Duc Thang Museum, this little bistro is a good value for money.

Don't expect anything outstanding here but good dishes, decent cocktails and fair prices. In the menu you will find a large choice of local and internation classics, such as steaks, pizzas, pastas, croque madame, pies, crepes... the portions are not very big but dishes are cooked in a very decent way and without pretention. The choice of drinks is also quite decent, with smooties, fruit juices, coffee, wines, cocktails.

The decoration is fun and colorful with some kind of "propaganda" style drawing on the walls. Made from a mix of wood and steel, the place is decorated in a modern style, it is also large and bright... at lunch time it can be crowded and noisy, however the late evening it can be quite peacful and pleasant especially at the last floor. Their is also a terrace at the upper floor wich can be nice for having a drink when the weather is not to hot.

There is also some live bands coming to play the evening, on Friday for example.

The staff is "ok", the service is fast but sometimes they can be annoying by sticking and standing near you when you are eating or chating.

Notice there is a motorbike parking right behind the restaurant...

I recommend Zest for people who are looking for a quick and decent meal at a reasonnable price in this area of the town. It can also be a great breakfast or casual meeting spot...

Dear Benhoa,

Thank you for taking your time writing us a review. I could tell you have been coming to Zest several times from what you've written, and we really appreciate your business.

It's great to know that you enjoy our space and find Zest an excellent value bistro. It is one of our priority: to provide good food for our customers for a good price.

I notice that you've put "pizzas" and "pies" in your review. We do not serve pizzas, and have never served pie, although pie might be put on the menu soon.

I apologize if our staffs bothered you at any time when you were here. It is our constant effort to provide attentive and friendly service, and I will take your comment to our next meeting. Our regular staffs usually know better not to "stick" around guests' tables, in your case it might have been one of the trainees. And again I am sorry it happened.

I do hope that when you come back to Zest next time, you'll see an improvement of service.

Regarding our food not being outstanding, I would love to receive more detail comments, if possible, to make proper adjustments. Although we do not aim to be the best, we certainly aim for excellent quality.

Again thank you for your repeat business, your honest comments and we hope to see you soon.

We decided to try this restaurant based on Trip Advisor feedback. There is a problem with the Map location as it directed us to a different No. 5 about 300m - 400m away ...also a restaurant. Zest restaurant is along the river section of road next to Ton Duc Thang Museum. We think this happens often as the staff in the “wrong restaurant” knew exactly where Zest was and appeared to be familiar with re-directing customers. After about 20-30mins we finally found the restaurant but the map location kept throwing us off. Seems there are a number of 5’s on this road.

Having arrived been walking/looking for a long time we were hot and the restaurant didn’t seem to be very cool – this was quickly addressed by the waitress who switched on A/C’s and moved us to a table that was cool.

We ordered Margarita, Long island iced tea, French onion soup, Zest salad, Cesar salad and Cajun crab cakes. All dishes were excellent though we gave top marks to the crab cakes. Not expensive but good quality. Cocktails were good and not overpriced. Staff were excellent and the manager said he had sent a report to Tripadvisor to correct the location shown on Goggle Maps. Well worth a visit if you want a break from Asian food some coffee or some cocktails.

Dear Eddie,

Thank you for your kind words. We appreciate you taking your time to find Zest, and we are glad that you enjoyed your dinner with us. If you do have a chance to come back to Zest, I'd be more than happy to make a long island the way you like it.

Although I have not received an update from Trip Advisor regarding changes in map location. However I've added "Ton Duc Thang museum" next to our address. Thank you for that suggestion.

Enjoy your travels!!!

Zest is at the top of my favorite restaurants in HCM. After many times having the short ribs (they are amazing), I decided to try exploring the menu with some friends. The Zest salad was unique, beautifully presented and so delicious. The french onion soup was the best that I have had in years. The curried mutton skewers with mango salsa were excellent as was the pan-seared lamb shoulder and of course the short ribs! We also had the calamari rings and the fried mozzarella sticks. The calamari was quite good, but with all of the other amazing things we were not crazy about the mozzarella sticks. We had no alcohol, but we did have soft drinks. The bill came to 1.2mil for 5 people and we left happy and full. The best value for a great meal in the city. The place looks far more expensive than it is. The staff is attentive but not intruding. Perfect! I recommend Zest for couples, families, friends, alone or business.

It's rewarding to know someone who really knows good food actually enjoys our dishes. When you do have some time off from your busy days, stop by for some of our new items. I've always enjoyed our conversations when you are around.

Nice restaurant, friendly service, good atmosphere, good food and wine. A bit hidden in a courtyard at a major trunk road along the Saigon river. Also a nice place for those who like an occasional change from daily Asian food. Curiously, we even did not get chopsticks, but western design-style cutlery.

Dear AIJM v,

Thank you for taking your time and write us a nice review, your first comment "Nice restaurant, friendly service, good atmosphere, good food and wine. " is everything we hoped for when opening Zest.
You have mentioned the lack of chopsticks, which are only brought out for Vietnamese dishes we offer for breakfast and lunch. Sorry if our staff let you have Vietnamese food without chopsticks.

Again thank you for your visit and we hope to see you back soon!
