“City Vibe - Classic Architecture and Local Life Abound”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

This location is a hub of activity. It’s a popular spot on the tourist trek with the Cathedral front and centre, the General Post Office on the right side. It’s the gateway for the Pasteur street food districts, Diamond Plaza, Vincom Centre, Versace Plaza and many other things.

Its also a very popular area for locals with the cool tree covered park nearby for the hordes of Honda to stop and catch-up for a street coffee or lash out on a cool Haagen Dazs ice cream treat.

If you really want to get a feel for the vibe of the city, this is a great spot. Sitting in the coffee shop on the street corner looking back at the Cathedral will give you a simple perspective watching the waves of locals coming into the city from the outer suburbs. There is usually a regular feature of locals visiting the square for their pre-wedding photos and from time to time, the tourist equivalent like my wife and I catching a cyclo around the Cathedral for our photos and a throng of interested sticky beaks following our movements.

The dynamic is fluid and frantic, and changes as the day progresses. If you hang around or come back as night falls, the area comes alive with illegal street traders, young lovers, and the church pilgrims for their nightly vigil prayers. All until the local traffic police come through and shoo them away in which case it’s amusing to see them scatter into the cool darkness of the night.

“Very nice”

Good to see but watch out for the mopeds that go in all directions including the sidewalks. Interesting inside. See the place at dusk.

“Wedding Photographers Everywhere!”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

While we were there, I counted 4 Vietnamese couples sauntering around the square in western wedding garb having their pictures taken.

If you stand facing the cathedral, the Post Office is on your right and across the park to your left and up a bit is the Reunification Palace (not somewhere I would recommend spending your time).

If you get the angle right, you can take a picture of your nearest and dearest looking like they are wearing the statue of the Virgin Mary like a hat. Mildly amusing.

“Lovely and across from Post Office”
Reviewed October 5, 2013 via mobile

We arrived here only to find it closed so be aware of lunch time closing hours. 8 to10.30 and 3 to 4. It still was beautiful to photograph. It is also very close to the post office which is beautiful and great to see.
