A wonderful, colonial cathedral best viewed from outside. The inside has been stripped bare over the years and you have to run a gauntlet of deformed beggars to get in. None of that magical, medieval europe ambiance on the inside.

Beautiful on the outside, even more spectacular on the inside so mack sure you go when you are able to go in.
The ceilings are just beautiful, lots of photo opportunities both inside and out. Outside it is quite common to see brides having their photos taken.

The church is one of the nicest in Vietnam and the architecture is adopted to the tropocal climate. Sunday mass at 9.30 has a wonderful atmosphere and parts are bilingual. Sermon at this time in English. There are many old plaques in the church from faithful. Next to post office and close to city hall. This church is part of modern day HCMC life at least for the catholic.

We attended the 9.30m Sunday mass here which is the English spoken mass. It was lovely to see how full the Cathedral was with locals and tourists. The choir was lovely as was the mass itself.

The Cathedral itself is worth seeing, the stations of the cross are made in impressive stone blocks and there are many statues and stain glass windows. Of corse it is free to visit and photos are allowed. Only negative is that tourists were allowed to wander around during mass taking photos/talking. This ofc is not the Cathedrals fault however but rude tourists.

It is situated in a lovely location opposite a very popular (with the locals) park and near all the museums, which are open on Sundays. It is about 15min walk from the main backpacker area :)

certainly comes with history. One of the places you have to go if you are in HCMC and place your flag there.
