You have to see through the propaganda here and accept the museum for what it is and what it represents. It is after all in Vietnam. The impact of agent orange was everywhere and became quite difficult to look at. There is much to see outside and in.

You will need a strong stomach for this visit, the museum pulls no punches as to the showing the horrors of the conflict.

This has got to be a must visit , just to show what the locals had to endure both during the war and for the decades after.

For the open minded it does make you ask the question Why! , especially to the power makers.

History is always better when you can review multiple sides of the events. As an American I have 1 view of the Vietnam War and relatives that served in the armed forces during that conflict.

The War Remnants Museum presents the Vietnamese side of the story and does so from a completely communist idealogical viewpoint (helpful to remind readers that Vietnam is technically a communist country despite a booming consumer driven economy). It was definitely not a perspective that I had been exposed to in my studies. Imagery can be graphic but war is a brutal affair so don't be naive going in to see a sanitized version of history.

It's definitely worth the visit and time to explore and even better when coupled with a trip to the Chu Chi Tunnel Complex.

Some interesting and confronting photos and exhibits. One sided representation but that's ok because it is usually one sided but this is the other side . Very crowded ( of course) closes for lunch like many places .

I was not even in and I could not beleive what I was hearing when I got there in june 2011. The very first thing the host at the door said was « We do not want you to be sad when you get out, we do not want you to be angry after your visit. What you will see in there is a part of the world's history and that is it. We Vietnameses have turned the page and we do not live thinking about the past but we are going forward and we want you to enjoy and do the same.» Talk about modesty !

Of course some of the things I saw in there were pretty shocking and it thought me a lot about that what happened. I have seen things I did not know as I was too young. It is an absolute must see if ever you are in Hô Chi Minh. Don't miss it !
