This is a must visit museum along with the CuChi tunnel an hour ride away from HCMC. I would recommend going for the Cuchi tunnel half day tour first before visiting this museum. The tour bus to CuChi will drop you off here as a ending point, where you can carry on understanding more on the Vietnam/American war.

With regard to content, I have to agree with the other comments that the story told through the museum is definitely portrayed in a one-sided manner. But perhaps its because of this way that the story is shown, it is definitely thought provoking and proves that the Victorious always gets to write the history books.

After checking out the museum, which has 4 levels worth of exhibition, there is also a make shift torture chamber at the area perimeter that has some interesting exhibits and torture equipment. Do check it out. I found it pretty interesting.

Visited during our stay. Found this very interesting and also very sad. Would recommend a visit here before visiting Cu Chi Tunnels.

This museum must be visited by everyone visiting Vietnam. Within under two hours one gets a good idea of the history of Vietnam and what its people have been through. We came out feeling a slightly better understanding of and great respect for the Vietnamese people. Some of the exhibits moved one to tears.

We visited with our three young children who also found the museum interesting and, because of some of the weapons on display (jets, helicopters, tanks and bombs), fun. Some of the exhibits (especially around the results of Agent Orange) is not suitable for children but the overall lesson was that war has serious consequences and is in reality far different to the computer games children so glibly play.

War history and recollections I'd learned were always from the "Western" perspective. The musuem confronts and challenges all you had thought you knew about the war.

All the 'cool' war artifacts are outside in the courtyard - tanks, planes, helicopters, etc. The entire inside is all propaganda, and was a little bit much. However, there were some amazing photographs taken on the front lines. Other than that, not worth taking time out of your day.
