“Great position”
Reviewed May 14, 2014

We spent a week at the Caravelle as a mix of holiday and business. The location is excellent and I cannot imagine better as it is right in the heart of Saigon. We had a city-view room and had a superb view across the opera house to the famous Hotel Continental (Quiet American fame). We were on the 12th floor which was high enough to be quiet, but close enought so see all that was happening below.
Apart from the nuissance of slow lifts (a nine month update process) the hotel functioned well. We particularly enjoyed the delicious buffet breakfast and the pool
My only other complaint was that our towels were replaced at least daily and sometimes more, despite the hotels green credentials. I did mention it to the hotel and they were quick to assure me that the issue would be addressed. I suspect that the problem was that staff were too keen to keep everything in order and I have every reason to believe that management took my comments seriously.
I am more than happy to recommend it.

Room Tip: Choose a city-view room. I don't like aircon when sleeping so just turned it off. The room stay...

Laying on a cushy chaise lounge at rooftop pool is the best place in city to beat the heat. Location is a few steps from the stunning old opera house. Elegant feel, but not at all snooty. Watch for flash deals for best pricing.

This hotel is the bee's knees! Great food, GREAT staff! Very helpful. Would tell everyone to stay here! Very clean rooms, location is perfect for close shops, cool bars, and great restaurants all walking distance. If we did take a cab very cheap because things are still close

My first trip to Vietnam and my first hotel. Cannot fault hotel. Every night our bed was turned down with little slippers next to bed. Breakfast was sensation. You must try the baked Brie and bread. Top floor bar was a great place to relax and look over the balcony and the streets below. Cocktail Hour by the poor was also great.

The gym was the best one we came across in Vietnam. Air-conditioned, great machines and weights and looks out onto the pool. Easy access to all part of HCMC. I will definately stay here next time in HCMC.

A must is the set Buffet at Restaurant. All you can eat and the food is 5 star. Seafood, meat, salads, desserts, bread, noodles too much to name.

The Caravelle is a really lovely modern hotel. The room was comfortable and although we had a room on one of the lower floors (8th) it was quiet and given there was a problem with the lifts to the higher floors we were quite happy with that.
The hotel is in a good location for getting out and seeing the key sites and you can walk to most. It is also good to be able to get to some of the less sophisiticated parts of town which is a wonderful contrast.
The breakfast is really good, a mix of all the things you can imagine and several you would not expect (a full chicken roast dinner?). One of the highlights however is the roof top bar. A great place to wind down, watch the sun go down over the city and the lights come on. Or after an evening meal out a good place to sit with some good live music and a cocktail or beer.
It is also worth checking out the swimming pool which is a good place to go in the afternoon when it gets that bit hot and humid to do the sites and you want a place to relax. There is also enough room to have a proper swim as well.
This is a modern hotel so don't expect period charm, but it is right next to the stunning Opera House. Also and this is the reason for my title, an easy walk to gaze at all the hugely expensive designer shops (Cartier, Chopard etc) all sitting next to the Communist Party HQ and the over size statue of Uncle Ho!

Room Tip: We had a lower floor which was absolutely fine. I am sure the top floors are great but given they ar...

I stayed in a number of hotels in HCMC - the best being the Park Hyatt without a doubt for more cost effective and still delightful in alot of ways was the Carvelle. The rooms and corridors (ours had a very damp smell) are a little bit tired but the pool is lovely and facilities great. The staff are superb and the location is excellent. Also one of the most comfortable hotel beds I have slept in in a long time. We stayed on the exec floor which made the check in a breeze whilst we helped ourselves to the delicious buffet and free drinks in the lounge and also breakfast there was great without dealing with the usual bunfight you can get in a breakfast buffet situation. Also the lounge has a terrace so you can survey the madness from up high. Other perks included free clothes pressing and miniature ceramic figures on the pillows at turn down. Lovely. Unusally I have to say in all my travels it its the ONLY hotel I have stayed in that has had gas masks next to the bathrobes and safe in the cupboard. Thankfully we never needed them.

Room Tip: Splash the cash for the lounge floor upgrade

I stayed here for 3 nights for a conference and I cannot fault this hotel. Firstly the staff were delightful, they went out of their way to be helpful without being intrusive. Secondly, the facilities are first class, as appropriate for a luxury international hotel. The rooms were clean, spacious, and well maintained. There was the usual absence of bright room lighting that most business travellers have trouble with, but there was a good desk with adequate desk lighting and adequate power points for computer etc. It is in the heart of the tourist district and close to a bus station and a large market. They were doing something to the elevators whilst I was there which caused some delay.

Do you really want to stay in a hotel that could really be anywhere, serves western food, and charges 10 times the rate of good smaller hotels in most other districts? If so, you will not be disappointed by this first class hotel.
