“A great place to stay.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2013

We chose to stay at the Caravelle Hotel on the basis of its fabulous central location (for touring), and the nice pool (for afternoon relaxation) and were not disappointed.
A number of key tourist sites in HCMC are within walking distance to the Caravelle (and there were an abundance of taxi for those hotter mornings/ afternoons), and the hotel can provide you with details of a suggested walking route.
We stayed in a Deluxe Premium room in the "new" tower which was incredibly spacious (there was still couch/ lounge space even after allowing for a king bed, single bed). These rooms are all designated non-smoking, plush, comfortable and very well looked after by Housekeeping.
This hotel is a favourite for business travellers, so expect all the nice touches that come with this (e.g. turn-down chocolates each night, luxury toiletries, a great variety of fresh food at the breakfast buffet, professional concierge tour booking and door people). Despite the business-based clientele, we also found it to be incredibly family- friendly, with Staff going out of their way to make our 5 year old son feel welcome each day. My husband thought the gym was well equipped, while our little guy just loved swimming in the pool after touring each day. The Caravelle is a great place to stay.

Room Tip: The City View rooms in the taller tower look onto the Saigon Opera House with Notre Dame in the dist...

What a great hotel. Staff are excellent.
9th Floor breakfast buffet, what more can one ask for.
The attention to detail really pleased me.
I was on a solo trip and slept on the one side of the bed, the housekeeping department released this and made sure that all the little extra things were on that side of the bed for easy access,
Bed super comfortable.
Amenities great
Pool reminded me of the pool at the Venetian in Macau.
Great little gem

I will be back over and over again.

Excellent service, food, and room. Ideal location. Bed was very comfortable. No problems with hot water or AC. View of lobby from balcony is amazing. Location is perfect next to attractions and places to eat.

Great hotel. Staff were friendly and professional, rooms were large and clean (and not even a whiff of stale smoke mentioned in other reviews) and there was plenty of attention to detail that makes for a memorable stay. We were upgraded to 'signature' rooms in the tower on arrival and had access to the lounge with free buffet and evening drinks, which made the stay even more pleasant. Would stay there again and definitely would recommend it to fellow travellers.

We stayed at the Caravelle for two nights at the start of our trip to Southern Vietnam. The most lasting impression is the location; directly opposite the Opera House and in easy walking distance of the sights of Ho Chi Minh City.
In spite of the perils of crossing the roads due to the (literally) millions of motorcycles HCM city is best explored on foot to appreciate the atmosphere and diversity of this buzzing city.
We were persuaded to upgrade to a "signature floor" room; as we already had breakfast included in our package this may not have been worthwhile however it did mean a room on the 21st floor with the most incredible view so worth checking before upgrading as the higher floors have the best views.
The room was all I would expect from a hotel of this calibre. Spacious & comfortable with free WiFi.
We visited the Saigon Saigon bar - a great place to observe the hustle & bustle from a relaxed perspective.
Limited time meant we did not use the pool although it looked very pleasant.
For convenience on the first evening we dined at the Caravelle buffet restaurant "19". Although it does feel as if you are eating in the hotel lobby the food was outstanding and very good value (especially if you have a large appetite). The variety & quality of the food was so good that we also ate here our second evening.
We took a Mekong Delta trip that involved calling at other Ho Chi Minh City hotels; none had anything like the location of the Caravelle.
By Vietnamese standards the Caravelle is expensive but if you are looking for a top notch hotel in a perfect location to explore HCM City the Caravelle is the perfect place to stay.

This was once the "it" spot in town and perhaps when the new tower opened it was a true luxury hotel but now it is a good hotel in a great location.

Unless you are a smoker, stay away from old tower rooms. The hallway carpet throughout smells misty, likely due to the lack of good air condition and high humidity of HCMC. The rooms are comfortable, if you face the city view ask for a high floor or the motorbike honking will keep you up. The bathroom showed wear, ie mold on tile grout, a few chipped tiles.

The pool is wuite nice and gets much shade in the afternoon, a nice escape from the Saigon sun. There is also decent food and drink though pricey. Lots of deal making in the lobby bar and good people watching. Stop by for a drink. The Saigon Saigon bar is totally cheesy, had a salsa cover band the night we stopped in. Felt like a bad carnival cruise event.

They did extend our checkout as we had a late flight which was nice. Spa was so-so.

There are newer and nicer hotels such as Prk Hyatt, Interconinetal and a renaissance where you can get a luxury hotel. Otherwise for the cheap price, caravelles is fine.

Room Tip: High floor or face river if you want quiet. Stay in new tower unless you are a smoker.

We stayed at the Caravelle before and after a short cruise in the Mekong Delta, and were very impressed with staff and hotel; in fact, I could not fault the service at any point during our stays. At our first check in, the speed and efficiency of the process were impressive, even at the point where we had to wait momentarily for the computer system, and the person on reception apologised for the delay! On our second check in, we were early and expected simply to leave our bags and come back after our Cu Chi tunnels tour for check in. Instead, the gentleman on reception, who was particularly lovely and helpful, did all that he could to secure us a room immediately, which resulted in an upgrade. I was very impressed. I guess being a returning guest has its advantages.

The rooms were immaculately clean, and we loved the amenities – thick robes, slippers, turn down service, plush products, comfortable settee with a great view. The breakfast in Restaurant Nineteen was delicious and provided an incredible range for every taste. We really enjoyed the views at dusk from the Saigon Bar on the 9th floor rooftop at happy hour, sipping drinks, snacking yummy bar eats and watching the mauve sky fade to black as the Ho Chi Minh City lights came on. The band and the Latin dancing were fun later in the evening, too.

When we went off on our 2 night Mekong Delta cruise, the hotel held our extra luggage for us, which was most helpful. They even arranged for the hotel tailor to mend my husband’s torn shorts on our return after a minor biking accident – complimentary.

We loved staying at The Caravelle, and will definitely be staying here on our next trip to Saigon.
