The location of the hotel is in probably the best section of Ho Chi Minh City, with the Opera House, manicured parks and upscale shopping. The outward appearance of the hotel and the lobby/restaurant is impressive, as is the number of staff on duty. The room was booked at the lowest senior rate with river view plus breakfast and featured an entrance/bar/dressing area with a large bath. The bedroom had a kingsize bed, dresser and desk. Although certainly adequate, the room and the furnishings did not seem to reflect a luxury setting. The air conditioning did not seem to be working well and one call to housekeeping produced a young lady and a team of technicians who improved the problem within 15 minutes. The breakfast was as advertised with with both Asian and western entrees in abundance. Most of our other meals were eaten at the same restaurant ala carte, although a buffet is available. The taxis at the hotel charge a fair price, however, other companies are not as reputable. Vinasun, Mai Linh and Saigon Tourist worked well also. For excellent day tours at low prices, contact Saigon Tourist online or the office is only a few blocks away from the hotel. We enjoyed our stay at the Caravelle and it can certainly be recommended if a reasonable rate can be obtained.

This was our last hotel of the Vietnam trip and it was definitely my least favourite. I think a lot of effort goes into the lobby area when it should go into maintaining the standard of the rooms.

Our room (1511) was not in the best condition. The carpet was starting to fray, there were marks on the wall and the shower was certainly not up to the standard it should have been - it looked like it could do with a nice rainforest shower head and it took forever to heat up.

Also, the toilets on the ground floor were appalling for this standard of hotel, with bulbs out and exposed plumbing underneath the sinks. I expected them to be plush, but they really weren't.

In saying that, our city view was amazing, the room was very big, it had a comfy bed and the breakfast was very good. If I was to return to Saigon though, I'd be looking for another hotel to stay in.

The central location of this hotel and the excellent service made for a great stay. The upgrade to the executive lounge was an unexpected pleasure. The room was very comfortable and the housekeeping excellent. The pool and fitness centre were clean and well equipped. I highly recommend.

Room Tip: Watch out for rooms that maybe subject to the noise from the casino and bar near the 9th floor. The large door doesnt stop all of the noise

Stayed in HCM from 08 - 12 May and I was pleasantly surprised by this busy bustling city! What an up and coming gem of a country to visit.

We booked into the Caravelle after a short (30 mins) ride in from the airport - to be greated by a sort of old world 5 star type glitz. District 1 is designed for luxury and this hotel is amongst many bang in the heart of the upper bourgeois HCM - where even the Communist let there hair go to make lots of money.

There is a lot to do in HCM and most for us centred around learning about the Vietnamese history and culture. The art world there is vibrant but the Museum of Fine Art is struggling. The infamous war and defeat of the US is prevalent alongside the atrocities and suffering the nation endured. Made us really re-evaluate our lives... The people seem gentle and kind - I never feared for our wellbeing as we ventured out at night to stroll the streets etc.

Pros: Great location, room, and facility. Services provided overall were great. Roof top pool and gym was fantastic. Soa was enjoyed by the wife!

Cons: Perhaps sometimes to many bodies looking to support. Key negatives: (a) Poor door entrance management - a few groups came in and the bell boys effectively blocked the entrance and walkways with luggage which if there was a fire exodus would be deadly! All they had to do was load the bags on the outer channel as opposed to in front of the entrance! (b) Price gap versus alternatives a block away - restaraunts, cafes etc. Suggest everyone turn down the breakfast optins and enjoy cafe life in HCM... lots to choose from!

Did I enjoy my stay: Yes; Will I go back again: Probably or enjoy the same groups other heritage 5 star hotels nearby; Would I recommend the hotel: Yes

Room Tip: Front facing room - adjacent to the Opera building - is recommended!
