“Unpleasant staff and no day light”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 2, 2013

Pros: Lovely to have a swimming pool (although it could use a good clean), fantastic location and very nice rooms on the upper floors. Breakfast was ok, pretty odd (by both Asian and Western standards), but free.

Cons: no windows or any light on any rooms lower than the 6th floor, they were like prison cells, in order to guarantee a window and any light at all, you need to get a premium deluxe room (which is 4 levels above the standard room). We agreed for a price for the upgrade to something even remotely liveable for our entire stay, and on check out they charged us for that price for each night, almost doubling our bill. that's all understandable, but the attitude of the staff was abismal, incredibly unproffessional, and rude, we felt like criminals for booking on the internet with a cheaper rate. In the tens of years of travelling and hundreds of hotels in which I have stayed, these were without a doubt the most unpleasant staff I have come across. If you can get a great deal online, then make sure you get the premium deluxe room, but if you're paying anything like the normal rate, then just go elsewhere, or you'll be sorely disappointed.

Room Tip: Make absolutely sure that you have an upper floor room - most of the rooms in the hotel have no day...

We have chosen this hotel for our last stopover in HCMC, and we did not regret it. Location is just perfect, close to shopping malls of Vincom Tower, Opera House. Rooms are spacious (at least our was), not modern, a bit outdated, but still more than OK. Breakfast was just amazing!

We booked this hotel with agoda on a 50 percent off special ( A$45 + taxes ) and were very happy with it for the price, It was spotlessly clean and rooms were big and confortable. It is amongst old french hotels such as the Rex, Carvavelle and Continental and a great location on a wide boulevard . The older part of the hotel dates back to the French Occupation .There is a great department store and supermarket right next door.. The staff kept the hotel immaculately clean .

The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are very nicely furnished, attractive, and comfortable. The staff is helpful and most appear to speak English. Nice health spa area with a pool. If you want an American-style breakfast they will cook you eggs, omelettes, and pancakes. The surrounding area is also great for dining and shopping. It's a little more expensive than some other hotels, but still moderately priced compared to similar hotels in the U.S. and Europe.

Room was nice and staff was friendly. Location was very good. At christmas eve there was a lot of people on the street front of the hotel. Pool area was not very nice. There was very small place to sun bath. There was also poor sauna. It was almost warmer outside of it. There was wifi in room but it was not working well. Overall hotel was ok.

Yes the location is spot on, unless you are in a five star hotel you could not be closer to the centre of HCMC. Our family stayed here over Christmas this year and it was quite an experience. Arriving at around 8.30 in the evening 2 days before Xmas our complimentary taxi pulled up outside the hotel amongst the thousands ( I'm not exaggerating ) of locals who come every night to pose for photos right beside the front door amongst the Christmas decorations. The hotel doorman and security had to escort our family of four to the front door! It was quite a sight and one we quickly got used to coming and going each evening until after boxing day. We booked this particular hotel for it's location and also a big factor for us the guarantee of a connecting room and this is exactly what we got. The rooms are a little more dated than the photos suggest however they are big, the air conditioning works there is free wifi and breakfast is included. Unlike our previous experiences in Vietnam the hotel staff were very disappointing, non existent you could say, a bit like what you come to expect from the large chain hotels that simply smile and wave! I asked to have an iron for our room and was politely told, that's not allowed due to safety concerns Madame, first time I'd had that response. Turns out it was dirt cheap to have things ironed. Overall our experience was good , but nothing outstanding.

While the hotel is centrally located to all of the major Ho Chi Minh attractions and inexpensive I would only recommend this for a stop over. The rooms are ok size wise but the beds are horribly hard or too soft. The furniture is old but clean, the hotel is trying to go for an 'older look; but it just really looks old. The breakfast buffet was fine, nothing spectacular but the supper menu was pretty good. Overall if you want to stop somewhere in HCMC before heading out this place is fine but if you wanted to stay in HCMC for any time I would not recommend it.
